Description
Ok, since people seem to like the way I use colour pencils so much here goes a little tutorial!Just as I promised!
PLEASE READ:
- IF YOU EVER RESORT TO THIS TUTORIAL OR USE TIPS FROM IT LET ME KNOW! ^^ I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THE RESULTS!
- Sorry for the poor quality of the photos...
- This is just a SUGGESTION! I don't really know how to use pencils properly: this is just merely stuff I've learned from my own personal experience using this medium and I'm completely self-taught!

Question(s)
Which colors do you automatically know what to use and do you have any tips on shading and such?

well there is always the main colour that you want the area to be (for example: if you want blond hair you'll have to use yellow, or an apple you know you'll need red, that sort of thing) and then u usually need at least on lighter colour and one darker colour to to make a light to dark effect. hope it helps!

I want to really thank you for making this tutorial! It's so easy-to-follow, makes sense, and left me feeling so inspired after going through it. While I can't say I totally used it in the colouring of this pic [link] since I did it completely digitally and used digital acrylics to try to mimic coloured pencils, I tried a bunch of your advice and it was still helpful. I still have a lot to work on in colouring (especially my pitiful shading skills...), but this style was really fun and I can't wait to experiment some more with it. Thank you!

such a good coloring skill with color pencil @_@! <3
what color pencil brand are you using if I may ask (I tried to color my piccu with color pencils yet the color seemed to turn out pale x.x; )

the problem most of the time is not in the pencil, it is in the paper: glossy paper, like printer paper, make colors look paller.
I use Caran d'Ache pencils.

awww thanks! ^^ i'm glad to help out.
keep working on the skin shading to make it more rich in terms of tones, the shading looks lovely just it all looks one-colour. try adding different browns and pinks to make it even better

At this tutorial you are using Caran D'ache... I was wondering if you could tell me your experiences with these colours... I am a bit new when it comes to drawing, and the only colours I have good experiences with is "Faver Castell". So as a new artist I am always open for new products and items, and since I have never heard of Caran d'Ache I was wondering if you could tell me something about them.. And maybe, if you have used Faber Castell, you could tell me the differences?
- Good tutorial by the way!

i never used faber castell before, but i have friends that use them and their pics seem fine. those are both good brands, i think you will have no problems with Faber Castell

i read this a while ago but didnt pay much atention, i mainly use pens and cell shadeing (is that the right phrase?)
anyway today i went back to my lovely old pencils again, they're a bit lacking in terms of colour range but i do love them, i have an almost photographic memory so i kinda used this tutorial in a way n_n
thanks for the help and see what you think [link]
