Once upon a time I used to draw maps, literally, from my mind! So, I believe I have good reasons to do it. But I stop doing so many years ago. Well, your kind of earthly world is awesome! I like it, veru much!

Your maps are very well done. I particularly like this one and Sheinar.

This is really stunning work. How did you accomplish the relief effect that gives your mountains and ocean ridges so much depth? It's practically like looking at Google Earth.

hey, thanks! It's a weird mix up of fractal terrains, a program called "wilbur," and the ocean floor is a collage made from a height map of earth's oceans then superimposed onto my fractal terrains ocean floor.

Other than that, I played around a lot with layer effects in photoshop.. and for the ocean color I created a hypsometric gradient which you can get photoshop to apply.

Basically, lots of layers and varied effects

This is a beautiful map, man. I usually can't get too enthused about an unwrapped world map of this style with its elongated poles etc. as it always looks a bit too satellitey for my tastes. But the way you've presented it here is great.

Awesome.
