Description I love both the bible and the Hobbit trilogy.  I'm sure some of you remember this line snipit of dialogue from The Battle of the Five Armies.  The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings have a bunch of biblical undertones and themes woven into their stories.  Whenever I think about Thorin and Bilbo I think about King Saul and David.

If you don't know the story of Saul (found in 1 Samuel), he was anointed by Samuel (the old man in the pic here) to be the very first king of Israel, and was okay for a time.  But down the line, he disobeyed God's orders and was rejected as king by God.  Samuel was then sent by God to anoint David as the new king.
Somewhere down the line (after David becomes one of Saul's armor bearers and kills Goliath), Saul (being tormented by an evil spirit) tries to kill David with a spear TWICE!  David later flees for his life and hides from Saul in the wilderness.  Saul chases David for years, and during that time, even thought David had a couple of opportunities to kill Saul, but he didn't.  Saul later dies by his own hand in a battle against the Philistines, and when David catches word of this, he grieves for Saul despite all of the evil things he had done to him.

I really just needed to get a picture out of my system before I settled into a late night of research for my thesis and I've been dying to draw this.  David and the prophet Samuel discussing Saul's slipping into madness because of the evil spirit tormenting him.  Very similar to Thorin's "dragon sickness" and I thought it would be kinda fun to do a small crossover of sorts.

*Now, just to clarify this dialogue comes straight from the Hobbit The Battle of the Five Armies movie and is not found in the Bible.

Ah, so you read the Bible! Any favorite passages?

Between the Old and the New Testaments, I have to say that I enjoy the Old Testament a little bit more.  I like the story of Jesus, and believe in it, but I adore the Old Testament stories: Noah, Joseph, Moses, David etc.  I love them all!  School has kept me a busy bee, and I don't have as much time to read the Bible as I would like.  I'm going to try to get back into the practice of reading it every day.

I understand I haven't reread the Quran in AGES. I really need to get back into that.

Totally understand that.  Another thing I gotta get back into is drawing people.  I haven't drawn a human in so long... this felt a little bit foreign for me to do.  Gotta get back into that

Oh, don't worry 'bout that.  I'm not that shallow that I would get all worked up over a picture.  No worries, bud.  Take your time  I've been working on Salma a bit too, but my school work is getting in the way of my major projects (I also owe my boyfriend a pic too, and I've yet to finish that either...).

THANK YOU, I'm glad we see eye to eye; because I've just been accepted to this huge Technical school to improve on my art skills and, well, things have been getting a bit chaotic.
