Valera antagonizes the wealthy; for their lifestyle, selfishness, and self entitled natures remind him of his father. The man abused his powers of the law and abused Val for being imperfect and he lived gluttonously feeding off the innocent. Seeing the black tar of his father's heart, Valera assumed he knew that that was what filled every blueblood's chest; a black, consuming darkness to which no light or consciousness escaped. That is, until he was loved and accepted by a blueblood. Andrea accepted the shadowed portion of Valera's heart, and, in his own pompous way, freed Val from himself, his town, and his past.

Now it is Valera's chance to free Andrea from the mask he's worn for his entire life.
