Description We Were Wolves (The Lacroix Commission)

This painting was commissioned as a gift from a good husband to a good wife on the event of her graduation. I was honored to do it. The guide for this piece was the creation story of the Dogrib people.

One of my favorites! I would love to purchase a print of this. I have 3 of your prints to date. Looking for more. Love your vision! Blessings

I love how you used so many different textures, yet it looks so put together. Your ability to make the picture simple, yet so vivid and serene is unbelievable. I've never seen a style quite as uniques as yours; awesome job!

Tikitoucan, thank you! I work hard on my textures, and sometimes the paint doesn't co-operate and I have to start all over, so I appreciate that you noticed!

Your tag line keeps putting images of a flying dove in my head. I think I saw that movie too many times.

Thanks. I've seen it like a million times too. I am eager to see it at the theaters again. There is nothing like seeing it on the big screen.

dogrib people? I'm not familiar to this story would you mind telling me? soudns interesting ^^

and a wonderful piece as always, I like the calm mood in it... and especially the wolf, it seems like he breaths out his life into the sky to carry away the stars...

I would tell you the story, but it has significance and power to the Dogrib (Tli Cho) people and I would have to ask an Elder of the tribe if it was okay to "publish" it.

The simple version is that the People were once wolves and were transformed into human beings. This is a common origin myth from many cultures around the world, the idea that human beings were once undifferentiated from the rest of the animal kingdom, and that we were given human shape through the intervention of a God or Hero.

So am I. I love that these ancient myths tell us more about ourselves, even (or especially?) today.

Today people forget who they really are... they forget their roots. It's a tragedy at all...
