I thought them to be a mix of orga and mecha that have lived for thousands/millions of years after the boy starts sitting in the ocean, which have apparently roamed the universe... so orga-mecha-aliens. Anyhow the design is awesome and touching. I really like how their bodies represent gentleness and how they interact and function with light and vision. And their ships are most awesome as well!
Also, I was wondering if anybody knows where I could find a figurine/sculputure of them?
Oh, and where's the blu-ray?

yeah but the question is....Who made them?
i mean it seems like we have been gone for a long time at the end of the movie. long enough for our cities to be covered by glaciers, i mean that would take a several thousand, if not millions of years.
