Description Here’s another pencil drawing of my vampire character Beatrice that I drew some weeks ago after our latest gaming session - during which there was an attempt on her life (…umm, I mean a very poorly executed attempt to end her undead existence.. or whatever ). So this supposedly depicts her whirling around alerted by the sudden crash of breaking glass (and the bullet passing her head by an inch). Being the fearless fighter she is, she immediately vanishes from sight and flees the room..

Again, this was meant to be a study of motion and colouring. My rather ambitious goal was to try and portray her in the split second before she turns invisible, with her feet already mostly faded from view and the rest turning semi-transparent. I thought to achieve this in the colouring stage by leaving the fox pelt that slips from her shoulder and the glass she drops somehow visible through her body and hand while her clothing, jewelry and that $5000 Prada purse she carries disappear along with her..

I started colouring this yesterday but it wasn’t really going the way I wanted and I got really frustrated with my mouse. So I’m submitting this now as a WIP sketch as I realized I’m never going to be able to do the colouring right before I get a tablet.. which is probably not going to be anytime soon. Meanwhile I’d be grateful for any tips, comments, ideas.. -especially anything that might help me to achieve the invisibility effect when I’ll finally be able to try and tackle the task again.

EDIT: Better scan

This is definitely achieving the goal set by it. The motion and fluidity of her response is clearly shown within the lines and textures of your grading pencils. Quite amazed by the quality of thickness between lines and curves.

Oh and I want that Prada bag!

Thanks!

Looking back at this now I see some problems with the pose.. Now I do have that tablet, but I don't know if I'll ever get round actually finishing this.. maybe I should do it, as a colouring exercise..

I really like the pose and the hands look great! I'm just now starting to learn non vector painting but I DID get the Intuis tablet recently. I must say...if you can afford it, it is very nice. Plus I started to learn painter not photoshop...so I'm a total noob really. The biggest thrill for me with the tablet was not having to scan in my sketches anymore!

Also like how your sketches come with stories Can't wait to see more work from you!

Thanks! I'm definitely going to get a tablet.. Right at the moment i just can't afford one (well, i guess a cheap one.. But i refuse to work with second-rate equipment! ). I guess i'd still be doing most of the sketching with by belowed pencils.. but you're right about the trouble of scanning them in -- and this picture for example was drawn using very feint lines and half of them don't show up at all when scanned.
