Description
Some of the key phases of creating the 'Contact' image. As you can see, the process required a lot of on the fly experimentation!ΒThe final can be seen here:

I really like the shifts through style. Some of these pieces feel very apocalyptic and evangelion-esque, but the final version was somehow hopeful? Signifying something like great change, but not in a necessarily violent way?
I'm Also really liking the designs of those little Birrin trucks.

I'm curious as to of what the meta human is and how it got there? Does it actually have the genetics of a human?
π: 0 β©: 1
Abiogenisis In reply to IncrediblePebble [2015-04-30 17:13:47 +0000 UTC]
It has the genetic information stored, but really it has nothing much in common with a normal human. Mostly synthetically grown.

That's one hell of an artwork! Well done. Your patience and devotion is phenomenal, I wouldn't be able to spent so much time on a single painting, doing so many revisions. It's really great to see the process, though.
I assume you already know what "Angelarium" is?

and as i was scrolling, it felt like i was watching the angel visit that planet every few millenia or so, evolving in the mean time but always silently observing

Wow comparing the changes highlights how an enormous effect on the piece the setting is. It has more of a menacing overtone with the structural background, but with the natural he has a more peaceful heraldic nature.

Far future humanity travelling through the stars has ironically become more alien and removed from us than the baseline Birrin.Β

They are support devices, able to harvest materials from the planet and produce what the metahumans need.

TedShatner10 In reply to Abiogenisis [2015-04-15 21:46:09 +0000 UTC]
I would've thought a creature like a Metahuman would get what it needed from asteroid belts and gas giants, tramping about on inhabited worlds out of curiosity.Β

Abiogenisis In reply to TedShatner10 [2015-04-24 19:34:01 +0000 UTC]
They do, though when on-planet it is simply more convenient to have these things close by. They don't have FTL tech to move resources fast.

This is really interesting to see how much was flipped, experimented with, trashed, changed and added as you went through making the picture. I guess it's important to stay flexible and keep working something until it finally looks satisfactory. Thank you for sharing with us!

π: 0 β©: 1
Abiogenisis In reply to Ti-Gro [2015-04-15 14:09:21 +0000 UTC]
I cut the ruins to increase the surreality, and because they cluttered the composition far too much.

Abiogenisis In reply to two-wheel-bicycle [2015-04-15 14:10:06 +0000 UTC]
Lots of photo bashing at first. They are random photos, but I manually paint or use approved photos for the final image. I never really take my own.

Awesome, I keep digging your work. I admire the detail with which you create a coherent world with its own rules and biology, it's almost like this is actual alien life, waiting for us to be discovered. Keep rocking the free world!
