Description
Originally completed on Dec. 20th, 2009.This was made for the December 2009 round of #fantasy-xchange . I drew *Groochi 's awesome dragon character, Kailani.

Original description:
Sorry it took me so long to finish. I decided to make it lineless which took me longer than I had expected. The little details like the lights and the ornaments on the horns took longer than anticipated, too.
I was finally able to try out value painting/underpainting/whatever you call it on this picture. I'm definitely doing that technique from now on since it makes everything so much easier in the long run. If you forget a character's markings, all you have to do is paint it on the color layer and you won't have to redo any of your shading. It's very convenient. C:
Kailani is flying through a snow flurry at sunset. Hopefully the background came out okay since I haven't seen any snow in real-life since 2001 or 2002 (and I couldn't find any good references on Google).

Thanks! I was incredibly busy with school, so I didn't have time for deviantART. If I remember correctly, I actually finished the pictures for that month a few days after school started. :/

Yeah i know how that is. I'm glad you actually finished it before you got too busy and bogged down with things. That sort of thing happens all too often and then you NEVER complete the piece xD

Awww, no they don't. :[
It's just a matter of practice.

I do practice, it's just I never seem to get that beautiful feel. It's also partly because I tend to lose my patience which means I then hurry through it. :/

Making anything look beautiful takes a lot of time and patience. Very rarely will something turn out good if you don't put the necessary time into it.
If you need some help, here are three tutorials that I've found to be really helpful:

Ever so slightly. Aside from my patience issue I need more practice in making the coloring look like it fits together. Tutorials that have drawn out step by steps showing every little added detail are more helpful to me. But Seeing the coloring styles on the last two tutorials is kind of useful to me in figuring out what kind of softness and flow looks better.
