Wonderful wonderful shot. Composed perfectly and focus is spot on. As for your 'cheating' well that's just tricks of the trade, knowledge ad ingenuity to get the shot. That's what it's all about. I really want to be getting myself up a little earlier to get a chance of taking the time to create something like this, wish I had that MPe too I got my first shot of a solitary bee the other day and really hope some day I can take that sort of ting with the quality of this. Wonderful work.

Another terrific shot.
From your friends comments, I am gaining some insight as to how you get such great shots. I see I made a mistake in buying a ring light. It is clear to me now, that there is much more versatility in the twin light system.

Mindbending.
What I don't understand is how all these critters give you time
to dig a pit next to them to stand in!!! It's the only way you can
possibly get these angles and means you are incredibly quick
with a spade. Or you have a guy who follows you around with
a mini JCB. Which is it to bee?

Hi Snowy,
There is a little bit of cheating going on behind the scenes with this image.
With the recent showery and cool weather the bugs are very lethargic and there are a lot of Nomada Bees where i go to shoot. This guy was sheltering from the rain and i was able to persuade him onto a more pleasing perch and after awhile he settled down and gripped onto the leaf. It was then moved to a covered area with some seating and a table so i could get the angles you see here.
What you cant see is the clothes peg holding the stick and the playdo that is holding the clothes peg .
I have another piece of playdo holding a large orange which i had with me for a background to stop it being black.
There my seceret is out
Its how i approach alot of my photography nowadays as i can play with colour and impart some feeling into the images and let my artistic side out.

Genius is 1 part talent 9 parts hard work.
You obviously treat this Macro art form with
a fierce passion. I can't believe you rested
for so long. I only discovered your previous
incarnation a short while ago. But having spent
weeks trying to find anything published after
Feb 2010 I feared the worst.
I am so pleased my fears were misguided and that
you have resumed/rediscovered your passion. Trust
me, what you do may seem inconsequential, easy or
effortless but what we do and how we do it is
meaningful and worthwhile in ways you can't imagine.
Never discount the Butterfly effect.
Or should that be "The Bee Effect".
