Description he is made of
gull wings
and gypsy moths
and vibrant green
lichen.

hes got stories
in his marrow.
and hes not
afraid to show it.

he'll splinter himself
just to tell you
his name.
his tales are salty
and poignant.
or is that the
sea that clings
to him.

brace yourself
against his tides.
they are here
to rock you.

true. :3

d'awww, i think its cute !
i'm not a fan of spiders, or spider type creatures, but it looks kinda fuzzy and (if i could get my arms around one of its legs) quite hugable.
but from the scale in the picture im sure i would scream like the little girl i am and run. XD

YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH I JUST LAUGHED RIGHT NOW. <3 Like seriously, the awesome, laughing-with-your-entire-gut and it feels so good afterward kind of laugh. XDD

But yeah, no. That thing... lives in tunnels. And it gets as big as its diet allows and as big as the /tunnels/ allow. The one our heroes run into feeds very well, that's why he's so damn big. XDD

haha, i'm glad (:
i get the 'are you crazy' look if i do that at the computer.

well now that you say that, i'm not sure i would want to give it a hug, nice or not nice.
he sounds fierce.
are they born small ? you've made me curious.

tinkertype In reply to acciopen [2010-08-07 06:54:10 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I used to, but my family-types have gotten used to me laughing for no apparent reason. XDD

Not terribly small, about the size of a dog (golden retriever types, not chihuahuas XD) and at least seven to twelve are born in each nesting. By the end of three months or so, when the teeth grow in fully, there will only be three or four babies left because they will have eaten their siblings and should be about the size of a motorcycle by now. XDD And so on, and so forth. With big enough tunnels and a large enough food supply, they can get as big as eighteen-wheeler. My coauthor and I have discussed the idea that the underground races keep a few trapped in pits and feed them specifically to get them that big and then use them to eat their enemies. x33

my step siblings are the only ones i don't get looks from.
my fam is pretty understanding of cazy tho : P

i have golden ! thats a good size bug (shudders) bet'cha they give a nasty crunch if they're squishable at that age...
hmmm, eating their siblings, very bad-beastie material. survival of the fittest.
D: eighteen-wheeler ! !
sounds like a story i could get into. (is an avid reader)
any other nasty beasties that could eat me as a small snack XD ?

XDD By claiming sanity, one is denying one's self life. CRAZY IS THE NEW BLACK. <3

Oh, please say that again. 8D That just made my day, it really did. My coauthor and I hope to eventually publish, so hearing people would like to read our stories is a pleasure.

Other beasties of the tunnels? Nothing quite so big, there are two major races which are drow and these lizard bipeds we haven't named yet and a minor race of... gods, how do I describe them. o___o Um, an eyeless race that eats stone, but they're quite peaceful! They wouldn't eat you. XD They'd eat your jewelry, though. ^^ -you'd only meet these people (along with spidey-beast) in the second book, which is when the main characters go through the tunnels to save one of their own. The first book takes place uptop. x3

Avid reader, hm? What's your go-to recommendation? Like, "this is the book that should be read by everyone everywhere". :3

who said i was sane ? 8D

sounds like a story i could get into. really.

wow. well i'm glad there is nothing bigger than the eighteen wheeler sized bug ! yikes.
i'm glad they're peaceful (: but now my jewelry is screaming
D: don't ruin the story for me, i wanna read it !

oh boy, you asked for it XD
heres a few to start tho, eh ?
anything by tamora pierce. her books are the whole reason i read as much as i do and why i write.
specifically by her:
-the imortals series
-song of the lioness series
those are and will always remain my absolute favorite.

-paper towns by john green.
-shiver by maggie stiefvater
both have amazing, almost poetic writing.

-the things they carried by tim o'brian
a bunch of short stories about the vietnam war. i know it doesn't sound interesting and i groaned when my teacher told us what it was about. but the stories are powerful. they make you think. it can be gruesome at some points, but they guys writing is crazy good.

all of those should be read/loved/shared/repeat.

but a book that should be read by 'everyone everywhere' would have to be paper towns by john green. it's relate-able.
it's an all around book. people of all genres will love it. adventure, love, mystery, comedy pretty much got it all. based in a real place with great characters.

sorry for like that whole long thing, but you asked. :shrugs:

tinkertype In reply to acciopen [2010-08-08 18:49:52 +0000 UTC]

Okay, okay, I won't ruin it. (SOMEONEDIESCOUGHCOUGH)

I... love Tamora Pierce, she's the author who really got me into reading and writing and fantasy. Definitely one of my inspirations. 8D Of the Alanna universe, I love the Protector of the Small series the best. I mean I love Alanna, but with the focus on knighthood that the Keladry series has, it takes first place in my heart. Though her Circle of Magic series are just a bit higher than that still. XDD

-puts Paper Towns and The Things They Carried on to-read list-

Of course I asked! x33 Every reader/writer/human should be asked, "What is the ONE book you'd tell everyone and anyone to read?" It can tell you a lot about a person. ^^ I know you didn't ask, but I'm going to tell you anyway. My go-to recommendation is 'American Gods' by Neil Gaiman. To put it humbly, that man is my writing god and idol, and all of his works should be read, from his children's books like Stardust and The Graveyard Book to his novels like Anansi Boys and Neverwhere. Read him. Love him. Write on~ XDD

D: ! !

yeah, her and christoper paolini. they both got me into writing and reading.
i love all of her books. i've reread the imortals, protector of the small and song of the lioness so many times. i come back to them whenever i don't have any other books to read. they're all so great and well written, its hard to pick one favorite for me.

also looking for alaska is another great one also by john green.

it does tell you a lot about someone.
i've read stardust and both american gods the graveyard book have been on my 'to buy list' of books next time i have enough money. (its been there for a while but im broke !) i will definitely check out the others you mentioned.

Doesn't somebody always die? XDD

Alright, alright, there's another one for my to-read list. ^^ And 'American Gods' is an absolute must. The Graveyard Book was amazing, but just make sure to read it before the movie comes out, otherwise Neverwhere first. x333 Sorry, I love the Anansi Boys (they're making a movie about that one too - Neil Gaiman just turned in the first draft of the script! -excited-) but Neverwhere holds a specialer place in my heart. xDD

yeah and it's always my favorite character ! XD

haha, i promise not to add any more.
i get my paycheck soon, i will go and get american gods and the graveyard book.
: D i love books turned movie... that is, if the movies good.

tinkertype In reply to acciopen [2010-08-09 04:52:53 +0000 UTC]

-thinks of who dies and whether you might like them by the end of the book- ...hm, you might be sad about one guy. x33 You want to hear something funny about two characters who die, though? They're bad guys (at least, to our main characters) and they have no more than a chapter of involvement... but my coauthor went and wrote out an entire story of their own and their backstory and we kind of fell in love with them. D: But no one else will because we don't mention the backstory in the book. XDD

Me too! ^^ Because then you have this fabulous visual of everything you loved from the book. Hopefully Anansi Boys turns out that way. Neverwhere got a mini-series done for it by the BBC, and I really want to buy it some day. XD

acciopen In reply to tinkertype [2010-08-09 05:04:09 +0000 UTC]

D: its always like some random character that i like that dies. like brom in eragon.
bad guys with a back story of their own. thats pretty original.

exactly !
but they always leave out my favorite part, even if its not important.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

tinkertype In reply to acciopen [2010-08-09 05:09:22 +0000 UTC]

Heh, thanks? ^^ I don't know if I'd call it original - because I mean, bad guys aren't inherently evil. They happen to be on the opposing side of the home team, and we cheer on their demise, and then go on with our lives. These two guys... see, I know that they were just two guys forced into a very difficult situation, and this was their best option. All the reader will know is they were two guys trying to kill the main character, and they didn't succeed. In fact, they lost everything they ever cared about.

[link] - Here's one of them, if you're curious. XDD

I think especially if it's not important, they leave it out. XDD That's what happens when you try to shorten a book to a script.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

acciopen In reply to tinkertype [2010-08-09 06:03:54 +0000 UTC]

thats true.
haha, i like that, 'cheering on their demise'.
i guess they weren't all bad then were they ?

XDDD you know i vaguely remember seeing that a while ago. it made me giggle a bit.

yeah, it saddens me. but that is what happens.

tinkertype In reply to acciopen [2010-08-09 06:19:12 +0000 UTC]

Well, don't we? XD
They weren't. They appear as assassins, mercenaries looking for the reward on the main character's head, but in their own story, my coauthor and I lay down their foundation and make you fall in love with these two opposing males who despite character flaws, love each other. Their love is what gets them into this trouble, and to avoid being executed, Nikos (not the guy in the picture) must go on this mission for the king. Anton (the guy in the picture) decides to go with him. They can't return without the main character's head, and his status and honor matter so much to Nikos that Anton agrees to this crazy plan of trying to kill our main character. Nikos could've just chosen life and love in exile, but no, he had to try, and Anton had to follow. They die for nothing. .____.

XDDD It made me giggle a lot when Riley showed it to me. I wish I could draw, so that I could return the favor once in a while. ^^

but the plot must go on !... ? if that does further the plot.

haha, i can't draw people to save my life.
i can draw an octopus tho XD and a few other animals.

tinkertype In reply to acciopen [2010-08-09 06:47:05 +0000 UTC]

XDDD! Yeah, it does actually spur the plot along, specifically deepening the relationship between the main character and his love interest.

All it takes is practice. ^^ I'm taking a life drawing class this fall, so hopefully I'll be better at it. XD Yay octopus! What other animals? ouo
