"look at these guns, baby!"
Very cool! I loved every one of your last 3 sketches(anthro' wolfys) But this is my favorite of the 3, great muscles, and what a fantastic facial expression!!!!

Geez! I'm in show and aw. I'm trying to develop as a traditional artist so I've gotta ask how did you do it For starters you made such a clean piece with just pencil. thats incredible considering how much people seem so interested in digital. Second the anatomy is simply amazing. I realized i can't get anywhere if I don't practice drawing people (or anthros as a substitute) so I would love to know how you managed to make a piece like this so well. Finally, your shading looks so clean and there is clear depth. How did you learn these shading techs?

Well, it's just as you say basically, reference reality first so then you can alter it to your liking and style later =3
As for how I got it looking so clean, I try to make a point of getting my drawing hand off the page when I draw so I don't smudge the lines, and judging from your comment, I'd say it's working ^^

yeah its doing a great job for your piece. checking your other pieces i'm starting to see that incorporate these tactics very well. but can you elaborate on what you mean by "reference reality first so then you can alter it to your liking and style later" or better yet am i right to infer that by practicing and studying what i see in real life and what others do I can learn and incorporate it into my style? Finally I don't know if you use OCs or anything like i've seen for other artists but i do notice a recurring theme of using foxes and wolves in your pieces and i feel pretty inspired to try drawing an anthro wolf now

You are correct in your deduction to say that you should use what you take from reality and other artist reference and incorporate it into your own work. Take care to only reference minimal elements from other artists, otherwise you might find yourself just copying their style as opposed to developing your own unique style.
And yeah, canines are what I do draw quite a handful of, though I must admit I'm rather amused that this time in the request/commission sessions, people have gotten me to draw other things besides just foxes and wolves. I'm glad to see that they can trust me enough to challenge me to step outside what I know I can create.

heh first time someone called me out on saying i was deducting. that does make sense though to study and practice from real life and other artists and I agree there is a fine line i should take with other artists work. fortunately i've practiced drawing other peoples art and learned more from understanding their process and how it reflects their style. and that is pretty sweet people are asking you that. like you say it shows a kind of challenge to your style plus in a way it expands your horizons of what you can do. i've always felt restricted with the idea that i can only draw big cats but maybe it wouldn't hurt to practice canines too. especially since wolves and foxes are two and three on my list of awesome animals

Well, technically anyone can get a request. All they gotta do is catch the open slot when there's one

Well then, I am going to watch you. I like your art.
Also, you will be saying when you have an Open Slot? I would really love to make you a request, just a normal arm muscle flexing draw with my character...

I don't put a message out saying "Open slot! Come and get it!", because if I did that, I'd get quite a few notes and comments asking for the slot when there can be only one who gets it. Instead, I have a list of slots on my frontpage under my featured deviation that I keep up to date. When a slot says "EMPTY", that's your chance

Hehe, I see, that's fair enough. I will try to get an empty slot...

At first I thought he was a wolf, since it looks about the same i do mines, then again at some point at does come together reguardless the styles that differentiate, but then again, huskeys do have a wolf like appearance that being more wolf than actual dog, still, love the muscle tone,it says alot and altogether, clean cool workEven im still working on mines, little more work and it'll be just right, already got what i need to aim for, just need to memorize more of how what goes goes like what, anyways, cool work.

You make a valid point in saying that huskies are quite similar to wolves, very little distinguishes them from actual wolves, mostly the markings and snout I figure.
And thanks ^^

Awesome work, the pose shows off this character's personality, and the piece has great shading for a sketch. Keep it up, Keane!

Nice work, the pose really has a lot of character, and while I'm bot usually a dan of ginormous muscles, the dude's guns still have a good amount of correct atructure. Keep it up, Keane!

The fur usually hides it, and it makes them look a bit more robust like that. But daaaaayum this looks nice! xD
