Description
Wanted to make a simple tutorial using the Follow Me tool to create interesting rooms. I would then go from here and create all sorts of interesting objects to fill the room. I think it looks quite effective with such little effort required.Related content

Can I just ask what this 'toon material' is that you mention in the second image? I've only just begun experimenting with Vray for Sketchup, so I'm asking about anything and everything...

Ah ok, its a type of material that you can create that puts a black line around the outside of objects. The toon material applies to a normal material, so its sort of like a wrapper of normal material (you specify in the toon material what normal material you want to 'toon'). Hope that makes sense otherwise YouTube toon material vray to get more of an idea.

I think I get it. You mean like an outline? As seen in cartoons, right?

And this is why I want either Sketchup or Bonzai 3D. You have almost no idea how long it takes to do just this in anything but C4D. I have Blender.

Ahk, well that's the sole reason I like working in Sketchup. Its so rediculously fast as I get bored of models quite quickly.
The most amount of time I like working on a model is maybe 8 hours? Then, that leaves 1 hour for rendering and 1 for post processing.. 10 hours, that's it. I would say close to everything in my gallery has taken under 8 hours to model.

I don't doubt it. That's why I want.
Bonzai 3D seems to have more tools and functions I cane use, so I may seem more biased towards it. But it and Sketch-up Pro are very similar being solid modelers with a lot of procedural stuff taken care of, so you spend more time actually modeling.

I fidget with Sketchup occasionally, get frustrated, and leave it alone for months. I didn't know you could do something like this! Time to pull it up and get frustrated again!

Definitely! I was in the 'frustration mode' for about 3 months, but after I broke through, I couldnt stop modelling.

I use this tool a lot when I model, it's funny though, every time I think I know almost all there is to know about it, someone thinks up a new way to use it lol. Thanks for the tutorial!

oh, ok, thanks!
sorry, one more thing, what's the name of your plugin tool icon that says "Skin"? its the one below the Select tool icon.
i watched a youtube tutorial video, and if i'm not mistaken, it did some awesome stuff, but i didn't really catch the name of that plugin, lol...

Very good tutorial. More impressed by the shape you made and the way you lit it will your render program. Sort of looks like a scene from Tron.

Thanks yeah with a bit of forethought, it really doesn't take long to come up with effective scenes/shapes/rooms, especially with the Follow Me tool.
The rendering took me 2 mins to setup and 8 mins to actually render (on my dual core lappy)

Yeah there are a lot of tools that help with that. For instance, there is the "sandbox" tools that has a "From Contours" tool that lets you go from stepped topographical lines, to a landscape in just the blink of an eye.
That being one of the tools I noticed you didn't have on your SU that I have on mine...
OR maybe you DO have them but they changed the icons from SU7 to SU8? That doesn't make any sense, but hey, who said programers had to make sense?
