What’s this, an actual drawing upload?! I know I’ve been inactive for like, over a year now, but I promise I haven’t abandoned art! I actually made this in November of last year while I was procrastinating a project for school, but today I realized I probably wasn’t going to work on it any more and that my hyperfocus has since shifted to other drawings. The character here is Ravenpaw from my comic, Eye of the Storm. I haven’t uploaded her redesign yet, but I’m getting close on finalizing it. No big plot relevance with this one, just thought it would be fun! To be fully transparent, I did not draw the ravens in the background—I used a raven brush I downloaded from somewhere because I knew if I drew them myself I would waste literal hours obsessing on making them perfect only for me to then blur them to the point of losing any detail I included. My main goal here was to play around with lighting and composition. My original intention when I started this was to make it my usual cartoony art style, but after moving the file back and forth between Procreate and Clip Studio Paint (man I wish I could combine them into one app with the features I like from both!) I grew the like the messy, lineless look. I never made a clean lineart, so I decided I might as well go for it and try out lineless since I had the opportunity to do so. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out! I struggled a bit with defining her features without lineart, but I think it turned out pretty well in the end. I had a LOT of fun with the lighting! I had a bit of trouble with differentiating between her fur design (since she’s already a dark colored cat) and the lighting for this drawing, but I think that’s something I should have expected when I put a black cat into an illustration with heavy shadows.

The inspiration for this was actually from listening to annapantsu’s cover of Arabian Nights, and the chorus in particular inspired Ravenpaw’s expression! You can listen to it here !
