Description Drosselmeyer, the Mouse King, and the Pasha/Drosselmeyer.

From the Sendak-designed 1986 Nutcracker film.

In this version, half the time Drosselmeyer is being traumatizingly creepy, and the other half you want to give him a hug. And then in the last act he has an enormous pillow on his head.

Eh. I still kinda like him.

I love this version of the Nutcracker. It's one of my favorites and I'm so glad you captured Drosselmeyer perfectly in your art.

Hugh Bigney is my favourite Drosselmeyer. I actually feel far more romantically drawn towards him than I used to feel towards the Nutcracker. I love your work, here.

Best Nutracker EVER! I was sad when it wasn't on TV this year...I'll have to watch it on youtube. I really wish they would release it on DVD.

Sadly, only select bits are on Youtube. You can watch it on Hulu if you live in the States, though (which sadly counts me out...)

Aww, Hulu isn't available any where else? What about Surfthechannel.net? Does that work outside the US? I'm not sure if they have the Nutcracker, but it's worth a shot. They should seriously release that edition on DVD.

No worries, I ended up renting an old VHS from a little local place. Hooray for privately owned video rentals...

I know, eh? Hugh Bigley could traumatize a whole new generation.

I used to have this gorgeously illustrated Nutcracker book, and Drosselmeyer scared the crap out of me. But I wish I still had that book.

Haha, yeah - like the bit where he's on top of the clock in the middle of the night? nyyyAAAAGH.

This version takes 'creepy' to a whole new level, though... [link]

Yes!

Hearing the music takes me back though -- especially the Arabian dance; in 4th grade my elementary school did Nutcracker and I was one of the arabian dancers, haha.
