This is my attempt at making a information centre of sorts.

I really like this --

I think that it needs some 'spotlighting' in various places. I don't think that it 'took away' from the image, as the place has no people, so it could be said that it is not in operational mode ...

i tried spotlights but render times went through the roof so i kept it how it is

hmm I know that adding a single spot light increased my render times by 1/4 so 4 lights would double my render times - If you look at my render of Sci Fi Lab - that scene had a total of 22 lights.

my original plan was to have neon lights around the centre column, consoles and the chairs but it was getting to much and doing quick test renders wasn't that easy and i am quite impatient, which doesn't help. i will prob re-visit this at some point with proper textures and a lighting setup

I've had to really consider how long I'm really willing to wait to see a test render....I think that waiting for a render is nearly as fun as watching paint dry

Ha! I just realized that those are the same chairs you posted earlier, only in a different colour.

a lighting hint... have spotlights on the chairs. It would make the room seem like it's in use.

You could also put dim light sources around certain rims like at the bottom of the centrepiece, or vertical light elements on the extreme outside part of the cyilindrical elements in the middle. A faint blue colour to the lights might work best. Think of the floor lights on the Enterprise-E bridge from Star Trek.

thanks for the hints, lighting is something that i am still getting used to. i will try this out.

I would add more light and colour, but it looks good so far.

Cheers bud.

this was sort of the look i was going for, adding more lights to this dramtically increases render times, that and my lighting skills still leave a little to be desired.

The colours were a little bit of a challenge though as i was unsure wether to have it all blue green and colourfull or as i have done here, the sleek reflective techy look.

it was a bit of a compromise at the end of the day.

Did you decreased the reflection deepness in the rendersettings?

some of the finer points of rendering my models still needs work, it is a slow process but each time i come to finishing a project i learn a little more.
I think i may have been a little to keen on this one.

Immediately upon looking at this image I noticed one thing: The rounded corners of the platforms that the chair rests on has some rough edges on it, you might want to consider fixing that.

Some lighting would also help to brighten up this scene a little, from it's otherwise... dark monochrome coloring. Other than that, the mesh work is solid and looks nice.

rooms and such are not something i have had much dealings with really, hence the lighting is a little out

the edged corners on the floor plates didn't actually show up till quite far into the render, and it took quite a while for this.

i am quite an impatient person when it comes to seeing progress with my work, so render diff light sources is a bit of a pain especially with the finite details in this scene.

i prob won't touch this again now. it will go into the library and gather dust before i do anything again.

My suggestion is before you do your renders, go over the scene with a fine tooth comb, you'd be surprised at how many things you could fix, and how much better your scene would turn out.

What kind of built in lights does your 3d program have?

tbh this was not one of my more inspired pieces.
I get to a point where i just finish it. (if that makes sense) i don't tend to go over much of my work at the moment as it is all very much a learning curve at the moment.

allthough if ya gonna doing something you might as well do it right

as far as i am aware it is a reasonably comprehensive setup, i just don't know how to use it properly yet.

I see. I'm just giving you a heads up... if you ever wanted to get a job related to creating 3d, then you should probably get used to what I'm saying, but it doesn't matter that much if you're just learning.

it is part of the learning process.
because i am experimenting all the time i am always learning little bits here and there, i have bought a book which i am slowly going through at the moment which is quite helpfull. many of my problems are due to the randomness of my work.
i will be soon setting my self little projects to see through right to the end, if my patience lasts

Many thanks for your comments, i do appreciate them
