Description
The individuals who can tap into the energies of the Quantum Field of the DC Universe.Starting from the top -
Silver Shield - The source of the near indestructible metal Dilustel. Originally appearing to be a massive spherical alien space craft that with the use of 'x-ionised' cutting equipment, would have samples taken for tests. It would years later awaken and assume the form of a tall, winged humanoid with six limbs ( two legs, four arms, and standing about 7ft ). Its missing hand is the portion of its body that was taken as samples for the 'Project Atom' experiments. Incredibly powerful ( possibly the most powerful being in the DC Universe given that Captain Atom, Major Force and Bombshell are fractions of what the Silver Shield is ), but also trusting and benevolent, he is fascinated by Earth.
Middle row -
The Ghost/Alec Rois - A former CIA spook who would in part be responsible for the framing of Nathaniel Adam for murder. Years later he was making use of an advanced quantum device while posing as a scientist, an encounter with Captain Atom resulted in his apparent death, when instead the device had given him a direct link to the Quantum field, effectively making him Captain Atoms equal. He would finally perish when his connection to the Quantum Field was cut off by Dr Henrich Megala.
Major Force/Clifford Zmeck - Formerly of the US Airforce, the psychotic Sergent Zmeck was imprisoned for the murder of an officers wife, witnessed by the woman's own son. Deemed expendable he was subjected to a similar experiment as Nathaniel Adam, being put inside a capsule made of the Silver Shield, but this time over twice as much metal. Years later he would emerge from the Quantum Field into the waiting arms of the Government, before his body hardened into it's dilustel shell, Zmeck was operated on, fitted with cameras, gas pellets and explosives, to ensure that he would be more compliant than Nathaniel Adam.
Ironfire/Martin Allard - The boy who witnessed his mothers brutal murder would eventually grow up to become an Airforce Captain with his hand on the button to kill Major Force. Allard was the right hand of General Eiling ( who had effectively taken charge of Project Atom ) until his kidnapping by the Ghost. Allard was beaten, tortured, brainwashed and subjected to a variant Quantum experiment to create a being that could tip the balance in the future conflict between the Ghost and Captain Atom. rendered inert when his connection to the quantum field was cut off.
Bottom row -
Bombshell/Amy Sue Allen - A young woman who would join the Teen Titans, Amy Allen would later turn traitor on them. A fairly petty character, she has no connection to Captain Atom/Nathaniel Adam in spite of a striking resemblance and very similar if much weaker powers. The character has had little else to do and never encountered the man she seems to have based herself on ( i felt the writers also had little grasp on how the dilustel metal was meant to work but then Bombshell was created in 2006, but i felt like including her ).
Captain Atom/Nathaniel Adam - Wrongly convicted Airforce captain who was accidentally hurled years into the present and transformed into Dilustel coated, quantum energy superman by Project Atom while finding out his children are now adults barely younger than himself. Over the years he has moved between being in government service and being a Justice League member. His son Randal Eiling is an Airforce Lieutenant, while his daughter Margaret Eiling works at the Daily Planet.
Waverider/Matthew Ryder - The scientist Matt Ryder grew up in a future time ruled by the mysterious armored superbeing 'Monarch'. Fascinated by the bygone time of the metahuman superheroes, Ryder was offered a chance to take part in Monarchs quantum energy experiments to enable the tyrant to master time itself. But Ryder sought to use this chance to end the rule of Monarch, and used his newfound ability to travel back to the period of Monarchs rise and try to stop him. Waverider would become a guardian of time until his unexpected ( and highly unlikely ) death at the hands of a Mister Mind controlled Skeets ( Booster Golds 25th century museum security droid ). His powers reflected his more cerebral nature.

Great art! Very cool!
I like that you included Waverider as a quantum being (he checks out all the boxes!), and now that I think of it he really looks like one, except his powers are much more time-oriented.
There's someone missing here: Breach! considering how similar he is to Captain Atom, and was pretty much his Earth-8 version.
Nice to see a fellow Captain Atom fan around the internet! Pity DC keeps dropping the ball with the good Captain, he's a great character.
I now want a comic with all these characters in!

Thanks
Ah, I didn't think Breach was tied to or able to tap into the Quantum field in spite of his power, so i didn't include him.
Agreed, the Captain is a great character, but so few writers seem able to write some good stories for him when it really shouldn't be that hard.
I'd like to see them all back in the DC Universe .

Bombshell is a tragically under used character. I like seeing her in this work.

I agree, they didn't do much with her at all, which was a waste. Thanks

Thanks, she is a nice visual, and like Power Boy had potential, but never really got much of a chance to do that much. I still have no idea why she looked so similar to Captain Atom and even used his symbol, when i can't recall any connection being mentioned.

Reading this the Wetwork team and there gold coated symbonite could be the same thing to. But then again DC really shrewed up in there fusion with wildstorm chackters.
Personally i really liked Bombshell in teen titans

I know the Wildcats, Authority and Stormwatch, but i'm not familiar with Wetwork. I had hoped to see more of the Wildstorm characters in the current DC, but they seem to have largely been ditched for the time being with only a few being used.
I felt she was a missed opportunity and needed more work, like Power Boy really.

One thing you forgot to mention in Waveriders discrrioption that Skeets robotic skin is part of the man

Ah, I didn't forget, i didn't mention it because it didn't make any sense for anyone to use a dead mans skin for making what seemed to be a mass produced security robot, its something that deserves to be completely ignored.

Well it didn't make lot of sense to have working time buble in a museum in the first place.
And have it be used by the father of Hunter whom would train Booster to become a time master so he could train hunter.
Skeets only seems to be mass produced but if the bubble can be stolen and destroyed before booster used it and be replaced by another, it isn't that farfetched that Skeets would belong in his timeline either.
Maybe Skeets belonged to the timeline where Waverider died under monrach rule in the 25th century where an earlier hunter stole one of the mass produced bioengineerd Skeets brought it to Boosters altered timeline and.. aargh time travel brain freeze
Aw, i miss the booster gold books

True, I guess he just trusted Superman , even so it would have been a useful way to have Captain Atom at least make some guest appearances.

This is really cool; I like seeing them in a lineup like this.
I like the looks of Bombshell; too bad she had such a weak character. She does look like a Rule 63 Atom though.

Yeah, Bombshells creation was along the same lines as both Miss Martian and Powerboy, but only Miss Martian seemed to catch any interest ( although i sometimes think that had more to do with the animated Young Justice Series than the comics ).
