Description "Well well, if it isn't the Fred and Daphne of the JLI. So, where's the rest of the Scooby Gang ?" the man known as the Question asked.

"Ha" "Ha". Power Girls expression did not suggest humour. Next to her Captain Atom seemed to be just recalling what the reference was, and did seem to find it faintly amusing although any smile evaporated when Karen turned to him.

"So before i start pouring you two drinks, i hope you can pay ? I'm not seeing much in the way of pockets." Question pointed to the two heroes.

"My wallet's under my metal shell, seriously. I can pay" The Captain quickly said to prevent any further disharmony, he got enough of that in the League.

Behind the Question was a TV monitor updating on the election, which looked set to be not between Republican or Democrat representatives but between the independents Lex Luthor and Superman.
Β
"Reports are still sketchy but it looks as though the Man of Steel's election prospects have taken a nosedive due to some mysterious illness. Election opponent Lex Luthor wishes only the best and hopes that Superman makes a speedy recovery. In other news...." The news report continued but the attention was lost.

"It's a mystery alright" Question said, cleaning a glass. It was hard to tell from Questions general way of talking but he didn't sound genuine.

"Yeah... a mystery... Maybe something he drank " Karen seemed to glace away, she looked like she might start laughing, she was definitely smiling. Her feelings towards her cousin were always mixed.

"So, what am i missing something here ?" Captain Atom inquired.

A bit of fun inspired by the amusing work of the Fedora Players animated short "Question's Bar#2 - The Dirty Kryptonite" set in their parody DC Universe youtu.be/oOAutBKEMWI .

The Question ia another Steve Ditko creation for Charlton that DC never really got right, like Captain Atom. Β In fact, the only one of the Charlton heroes they ever got right was theBlue Beetle, and they killed him.

Rene Montoya is just about the best version of the Question that's been done at DC.

I felt the Question was only mildly altered, much like Blue Beetle they fitted into DC fairly easily. Captain Atom on the other hand needed an overhaul to integrate into DC.

Sorry to take so long replying - the main alterations DC made in The Question was to completely change the political basis of the character, from Ditko's "objectivist"/Randroid positions to fairly left-wing.

No worries, i wasn't actually expecting a reply. Maybe the writers felt obectivism might be hard to work with a vigilante.

Another late reply - haven't even been here in months - it seemed to work pretty well for Ditko at Charlton.

If Metropolis is a city in the USA, Superman couldn't became US president! Because he wasn't born in the USA.

A good point , but one that might have been thought about years back in the Modern Era DC Universe ( 1986-2011 ).

Β If i recall right the Modern Era Superman did not leave Krypton as an actual baby, but as Jor-El's and Lara's genetic material contained and developing within a 'Birthing matrix' that was fitted to travel through space, so while he was conceived on Krypton he was technically 'born' in Kansas, on Earth when he emerged from the birthing matrix. So he could be considered American, having been born and raised there.

Of course that only applies to the 1980's John Byrne origin story, and has since been replaced.

Some voices just work, and Jeffery Combs just nailed it for the Question.
