Description After Dr Bedlam's failure on Earth activity from Apokalips fell almost silent for several months...

And then a distant planet was attacked, an invasion by an unknown force, communications were sent to the Green Lantern Corps for aid. Three Green lanterns were sent to investigate and repulse the unknown alien fleet, the Guardians of the Universe were confident that 3 of their Green Lantern Corps members would be more than able to deal with this threat. They were wrong.

From the information gathered by the rings that returned without their owners it was revealed that Darkseid has appointed a warmaster and champion, the Apokaliptan who calls himself "Monarch". Against this powerful new god and the female furies who served beneath him, the three Green Lanterns perished rapidly.

Apokalips has after a millennium of wait, at last been unleashed...

The War with Apokalips against the Green lanterns, the New Gods of New Genesis, and eventually Earths Champions will be part of a sequel story. I was always puzzled that in the comic's Darksied ruled just a single planet, in my revision, Darksied rules a huge Empire, allied to the other hostile alien empires of DC, and has been in a cold War with New Genesis for thousands of years. With only the Green Lanterns keeping the peace. This was inspired by the animated version of Darkseid [link]

In this picture are three of the female furies, Lashina ( in black ), Gilotina ( blonde in white ), and Stompa ( centre in orange ) based loosely on Superman/Batman Apocalypse's versions. And above them, Monarch and legions of Apokaliptan air tanks. The green lines are the energy trails of Green lantern rings, leaving their now finished wearers.

This was one of the good things that the New 52 did, the new Darkseid is probably one of the most powerful versions of the character, with him casually going around through parallel universes, conquering various planets, including other Earths, killing and/or enslaving alternative versions of the Justice League and even sometimes absorbing the energy from some of the conquered planets.

"Monarch" I'm guessing you don't meanΒ the villain from Venture Brothers? I wonder what effect this all has had on Batman? There mere fact that none of the heroes considered Bedlam's action unusual enough to warrant to consider that he was an imposter might make Batman reconsider his methods.

"Attention Dr Venture...This is The Monarch speaking!" Β

DC's Monarch was a villain from 1991's 'Armageddon 2001' event story, clad in Blue and Gold armour, and powerful enough to pose a threat to even Superman, he was intended to be an evil Captain Atom from the future who had traveled to the present to ensure that the right circumstances would occur so that he would exist, but due to editorial decisions and leaked information of the big 'reveal', it resulted in the hero 'Hawk' being made the villain, who would then become Extent and would be eventually killed off in the JSA comics until his resurrection in Blackest Night.

DC tried to make Captain Atom Monarch in the mid 2000's for reasons that made little sense to me.

IΒ  never followed through all of the possibilities such as the fallout and lack of trust towards Batman, instead i gave Powergirl an adventure with Atlee in space.

Your knowledge of the DC universe is pretty impressive.

Perhaps something to explore down the road?

I might give it some attention at some point, although the idea of Batman having his ties with the JLA broken over trust issues has been done before in the comics.
