Description
A fanart of Hammerstein, the 'Leader' of the ABC Warriors from the popular comic anthology 2000AD.Hammerstein is the official leader of the ABC warriors, though in the past he has proven easy prey to the manipulations of fellow ABC warrior Deadlock. Hammerstein was programed to be moral, heroic, and obedient to his human superiors, though as the series progressed he would break his programming and execute the tyrannical Emperor of Terra instead of obeying the Emperor's command, finally being able to follow his own will.
I've picked his 'Chronicles of Khaos/Hell Bringer' era as the basis for his appearance, partly because that was my favourite period, it was violent, anarchic, and funny.

The big pity was that pretty much nothing was made of Hammerstein's development, and by and large the events of Chronicles and Hellbringer might as well have not occurred.
Most of the ABC warriors were cool, but the added member Zippo along with returned members Steel Horn and Happy Shrapnel i'm not bothered about, and Mongrols restored intelligence hasn't done him any favours at all. In fact these 4 characters are all a bit similar in 'grizzled/scarred soldier' personality.

One of my oldest memories of this series was Mess vs. a T. Rex... the dinosaur was not happy. For the few remaining moments of its life
I liked the classic lineup, really. Mongrol smoosh and all that lack of finesse... Morrigun was an interesting addition for a while, too. If anything though, the people I could have lived without were Blackblood and Joe Pineapples - how anyone put up with that blatant backstabber (and how Hammerstein constantly let him off with no more than a good kicking was beyond me) and I never understood why Joe was considered so massively cool when he never said or did anything noteworthy (as in back in the days where he spoke in acronyms "A1" my ass

Yep, Hammerstein was the inspiration for the rather cool looking ABC warrior that featured in the 1990's Judge Dredd movie ( i think it's a fun movie, although it could have been better, it caught the general look of the comics rather well )

I have heard, although have not seen, that the more recent Judge Dredd movie was more true to the comic.

The style and look is maybe a little too grimy in my opinion, but Dredd is closer to his comic character and a young Psi Judge Anderson is a welcome sight. The new movie is worth watching.
