Knocked on to the ground, Kara and Nathaniel could only look awkwardly as Nate's energy blast tore though the caves roof and hurtled skyward, almost forgetting that they were involved in a battle with one of the Leagues most formidable foes. There was at least the reassurance that there was not a built up area above, and hopefully it would miss any of the satellites around Earth.

The energy blast did indeed miss any Earth satellite, it did however strike the Green Lantern Kilowog, the last surviving Bolovax, who was busy constructing a new communications satellite for the Justice League. Rattled and irritated by his work being destroyed, the Green Lantern's ring calculated the location of the the blasts origin and the big alien prepared to deal with the 'poozer' responsible.

( This was rather fun, particularly with the Nate/Captain Atom and Kara/Powergirl panel with their look of 'oh hell', unaware of who was struck by the misfired blast.

Kilowog is generally the gruff instructor of the Green Lantern Corps, he's been in several of the animated DC series, and Green Lantern movie, and the big guy is rather likeable, so i thought, why not have him make an appearance since he did used to work with Nate and Kara.

It's often forgotten that Kilowog was once a reserve member of the Giffen/DeMatteis Justice League International, and even without his ring -the Corps had collapsed at the time-, he was a technological genius and provided a lot of the Leagues technologies that were far in advance of anything Batman could come up with.

Kilowog was also partly responsible for saving Powergirls life years back in 1989, he constructed a device to allow Superman -under a surgeons guidance- to operate on Kara's invulnerable body to get to her internal injuries. After this he was a support character in Captain Atom's league until the 'Breakdowns' story of 1991/92 after which he regained his Green Lantern Ring )
