Description OK, I'm replacing Hansi with this.

Thanks to everyone who informed me that I was unable to post the Hansi cover; I did not know.

I am replacing the the Hansi because I cannot delete it. Every time I try, I get an ERROR message. I dont' want to get into trouble, so here's a convention sketch of Alice.

It's a quote from Lewis Carroll's THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS. The Queen's response to Alice's assertion that you can't believe in impossible things:

"I dare say you haven't had much practice," said the Queen. "When I was your age, I always did it for half-an-hour a day. Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast."

Oops, commenting on the Hansi one. But this is awesome, too.

What? No Hansi?

Great sketch by the way. I'd love to see you cut loose on one of these classic stories someday. A series of Adam Hughes' fairy tales would be amazing.

Loved the Hansi thing, but I love Alice more, so double-win for me today! Thanks for posting both.

ok, i looked up the hansi thing, on amazon. apparently, it was based on a true story.

from the description:
This is the true story of Maria Hirschmann, an orphaned Christian girl in Czechoslovakia, who got caught up in Hitler's Germany -- but eventually found her way out of it, renouncing Nazism and returning to her foster mother's Christian faith.

How did Marie, nicknamed "Hansi," become a Nazi? She won a scholarship to a Nazi school in Prague. Such an opportunity was scarcely dreamed of amidst the poverty she had grown up in. And so, it wasn't ideology or hatred of Jews that drew her to the Hitler Youth at first. It was simply that she thought she was being offered the opportunity of a lifetime -- to get an education.

The banality of this story is chilling, but also quite understandable. When I read this book ten years ago, I saw for the first time how ordinary people with basically good hearts got caught up in the Nazi machine. Hindsight is always 20-20, but when an event is taking place in our lives, we don't always have the wisdom to make the right decisions.

the funny thing: nazis were christian. hitler constantly made reference to jews as "christ killers" as well as direct reference to writings of martin luther's anti-semitic rants.
that's martin luther, not martin luther king...

Not that I didn't pass the Hansi image to everyone at work and we all indeed did "laugh & laugh."

I have been in love with this Alice image since I saw it for the first time in your sketchbook. We both share a love of Rockwell and you always seem to capture those great moments in time just like him.

It's made me cognizant that my characters should always be doing something and if they're posing, they should be posing for someone.

The flaring of the skirt is wonderful and the fact that almost all of the background lines lead directly to Alice is a fantastic subtlety.

Dug the Hansi cover too. The Fonts were incorporated so wonderfully and the eyes were imbued with a blankness that implied almost blissful ignorance.

It's good that you are a Christian, now you know that the human implantable rfid chip is the mark of the beast, because it sends radio waves to your brain to make you docile. Therefore you can no longer have your free will! By the way Obama is going to implement the RFID chip and the media will hail it as a great thing.

I think you should consider doing an updated version of the cover art. Really.

You may also want to check out the cover to "Girl Puncher". No idea what the book is about but the cover is hysterical.

That is a wacky cover. Especially when you release Archie Comics cashed on on the 70s Naziploitation craze.

But my favourite gratuitously over-the-top, shockingly inappropriate comic book cover has to go to Exciting Comics #35, featuring the Black Terror. The Black Terror tommygunning horribly racist caricatured Japanese soldiers while his sidekick Tim steamrollers them all. Just amazing. --> [link]
