Year: 2011Client: Vertigo/ DC Comics
Media: Media: Pencil, PITT Pen and COPIC marker on Strathmore Drawing paper, then colored with Adobe Photoshop CS2.
This is the wraparound cover to Bill Willingham's FAIREST, coming soon from Vertigo/DC Comics. It's the new new FABLES spinoff book, and I'm the regular cover artist. I've been a FABLES fan for a while now, and am really excited to be a contributor now!
This one was WORK, I mus say, and not for the reasons you might think... When I do regular covers for a book, it usually takes me 5-7 covers before I figure out how I like to portray the main character.
On THIS cover, I had to commit to how I would portray, what, 13 characters? 'Ugh!' and "Oh, no!'
I'm not going to name all the characters portrayed here, because sharp-eyed FABLES fans seem to be having too much fun trying to guess all of them!

Amazing on every level. No detail ignored, all the women look amazing, you alter light and color to enhance the amazing worlds you share with your viewer. Love the way you draw hair and the bottom of shoes. Unbelievable.

It's all about that yawn, one of the hardest things to draw and you nailed it!
It's very hard to draw the "ugly" shots and still make them look pretty. Things like that make it feel more genuine and human, not enough artists do it / or if they do: can't pull it off.
