Year: 2011Client: Vertigo/ DC Comics
Media: Media: Pencil, PITT Pen and COPIC marker on Strathmore Drawing paper, then colored with Adobe Photoshop CS2.
This is the wraparound cover to Bill Willingham's FAIREST, coming soon from Vertigo/DC Comics. It's the new new FABLES spinoff book, and I'm the regular cover artist. I've been a FABLES fan for a while now, and am really excited to be a contributor now!
This one was WORK, I mus say, and not for the reasons you might think... When I do regular covers for a book, it usually takes me 5-7 covers before I figure out how I like to portray the main character.
On THIS cover, I had to commit to how I would portray, what, 13 characters? 'Ugh!' and "Oh, no!'
I'm not going to name all the characters portrayed here, because sharp-eyed FABLES fans seem to be having too much fun trying to guess all of them!

This is well done and very exciting to hear about a new tail from Willingham. He is an amazing writer and you are an incredible artist. Well done! The bed just stuns me. It's as if it's a direct replica of the art nouveau furniture style.
Great work and it's so nice to see your new stuff. This does look like it took some time. We all must sacrifice for our art.

That's a very nice bedstead. I like the unobtrusive way you incorporated the "S" into the design.

Never read any Fables, but I can still pick out a lot of fairy-tale characters pretty easily. Not sure who the cute little redhead on the far right is, though. She's my favourite of the bunch.

It always amazed me how simple and complex and pleasing you can make a picture... your style really works with multiple characters! The outline and differences in saturation clearly define them and keep them seperate, but at the same time it's not harsh; it's gentle and almost pastel. Absolute Love for this cover!

something really amazing of your art is that you can really give that sense of humanity in your subjects. That's is also hard to find, even more in non-realistic drawings
