Year: 2011Client: Vertigo/ DC Comics
Media: Media: Pencil, PITT Pen and COPIC marker on Strathmore Drawing paper, then colored with Adobe Photoshop CS2.
This is the wraparound cover to Bill Willingham's FAIREST, coming soon from Vertigo/DC Comics. It's the new new FABLES spinoff book, and I'm the regular cover artist. I've been a FABLES fan for a while now, and am really excited to be a contributor now!
This one was WORK, I mus say, and not for the reasons you might think... When I do regular covers for a book, it usually takes me 5-7 covers before I figure out how I like to portray the main character.
On THIS cover, I had to commit to how I would portray, what, 13 characters? 'Ugh!' and "Oh, no!'
I'm not going to name all the characters portrayed here, because sharp-eyed FABLES fans seem to be having too much fun trying to guess all of them!

Congratulations on being a cover artist for fables. It is one of the comics I am just getting into with the trades, so I look forward to see the newest additions.

As much as I love how well you capture expression and different looks on different faces, I LOVE that A.N. inspired bed and the way you handled the marble-y walls and columns.

Artists usually work under non-disclosure agreements. Meaning they can't really talk or show what they're working on. When it gets released to news and other sources it is available for public preview and artists, like Adam here, can display the work in their portfolio. It's not the artist who is releasing it, but the client.

I just want to say that everything about this is wonderful, but I especially love the hidden “S” and ”B” in the foot board of Sleeping Beauty’s bed!
