Description
This is an acrylic painting I did for an issue of Orson Scott Card's Intergalactic Medicine Show . It's for a semi-fantasy but mostly history-inspired story about the largest elephant to have ever existed, Jumbo.Kind of a strange composition, and not the best lady, but I'm happy with the textures in the elephant's skin.

My main critique is that the elephant seems to be completely ignoring the woman despite that she is grabbing its trunk. If this were to be fixed, I think it would also set them more on a unified ground plane. Of course, I don't know the specifics of the story... You NEED to do more black and white. It looks good on you.
Um, you're the best.

Oh wow! The woman's neck is gorgeous, and the elephant's skin defies definition. It's amazing you gave it so much detail with only black and white.

Yeah the elephant looks amazing...but the lady's a bit stiff. I like her expression, though. It looks like she's communicating with the elephant.

I agree, the textures are the strongest part of the piece, in my view. Nice work!
