Ah, excellent redesign! It looks very much like an Omega-class modernized with technologies used in the Warlock-class.
I especially like the fact that FINALLY someone realized that the large ports below the fighter launch and recovery bay look EXACTLY like fixed spinal mounted versions of the Babylon 5 Station's "big guns"*1 which fired just these green bolts. I've often heard them being called "Superheavy Plasma Cannons" or "Plasma Mortars".Β Β
According to the original designer, the large guns that fire the green bolt in this picture were supposed to be "Gigaton class Missile Launchers"(which I always understood as something similar to the Narn "Energy Mines"). I could see them being that as well, they look also very alike to the Narn Energy Mine Launchers...maybe an interchangeable module?*2
Further, according to the original designer of the CGI model, the Omega's whole sides were covered in missile tubes for a "sail ship of the line broadside firing effect". None of these systems ever got used in the show, because of constraints with the CGI and the cost of animating even more weapons on a ship that featured so prominently in the series.
Anyway, in my humble opinion, the idea of every red dot on the side of the Omega being a missile tube was not only overkill, but completely ignored the fact that these supposed tubes would have taken up the internal space of the entire section... this is very easy to see if one compares the size of the Warlock-class' missiles to the supposed missile tubes on the Omega! So, I am glad that you got rid of those! ^^
The cylindrical parts above the "Green Bolt Guns"(since I am not sure of their actual designation^^) however, look to be exactly the right size for Missile Launch Tubes.
The original Omega design had 2 Large and 1 Medium sized version of these, your redesign has another medium sized one in place of the second large one. Why is that?
In any case, an excellent picture! If you ever do another "do-over" of sorts of this ship, don't forget the dual Light Pulse Cannon/Interceptor Turret mounts above and below the Launch Bay, on the extended booms between the engines, as well as on the sides of the ship exactly between each of the medium turrets. Just a tip from a hardcore Babylon 5 fan.
*1 The station got these after they strengthened it's weapons array and they feature prominently in the final episode of Season 2 as well as in the Season 3 battle between Earthforce Defectors and Loyalists at Babylon 5... in both cases, this gun was the "overkill" that unintentionally blew up the target ship xD
*2 We know from the "In the Beginning" TV-Movie that the Narns traded weapons to the Earth Alliance during the Earth-Minbari War. That's how the Earth Alliance got the "red laser beams" in the first place. It's reasonable to assume that the Energy Mine Launchers were also part of the bargain.

I love B5 and I love your design. I don't know what I would give to get the show restarted on tv

I've always thought that Babylon 5 had some of the most interesting space craft n sci-fi, and AdamKop's beautiful art work affirms that point of view.

this i believe is the closest we will get to something we will actually build in the futureΒ

Hey! Got that gun done right - was planned in the series but then they swapped FX teams and forgot - that, the side mounted star-fury launch bays and missile tubes....
Ah well good work as usual

so this is a redesign.Β I was looking to see what was changed.Β couldn't tell what was changed.Β
Took a look at another copy of the Omega that I had.
I see that you took out the missile bays, it had 72 of them.Β this version isn't quite bad ass, but can give someone a bad day!

Well I just took the base and did most on my own, just looking at the real thing from time to time so even I don't know what's missing

Don't see these very often. Nice work
is this meant to be a Specific Omega Destroyer or just the design?

AdamKop In reply to BrowncoatMando [2013-10-02 13:14:50 +0000 UTC]
Thanks It's meant to be a traditional OD in terms of general shape and elements, but with different details such as hull plating, pipes and greegles.

Awesome lighting effect on that weapon blast! Texture work is pretty outstanding, too.
Only, there's something off. Maybe it's the camera lens, maybe the model, i can't really say. But it looks like a miniature to me. Compare it to, i dunno, this one:
This looks rather massive and large, in comparison.
Don't get me the wrong way, i like your render a lot β that's why i'm being overly critical, i guess

wenzen4 [2013-05-22 05:09:21 +0000 UTC]
Do you model the hull plating designs, or are they textures? Sorry, just curios.
π: 0 β©: 1
AdamKop In reply to wenzen4 [2013-05-22 05:48:36 +0000 UTC]
Most of the time I model plates. I sometimes mix styles, modeling bigger plates and adding a texture that imitates small plates to further enchance the scale.

I love this work! The Omega is a classic sci-fi design (if you can call anything made in the 90's "classic" yet), and your work is familiar, yet distinct.

I was just thinking about B5 yesterday. There was a scene- I forget which episode- Where a deep space exploration ship arrives at the station and Sheridan points out that you might see one in your entire life- if you're lucky- that's how spread out they were.

ACXtreme [2013-03-05 12:24:56 +0000 UTC]
damn I wish someone would overhaul the B5 series with these types of graphics.
The story is damn good but the visuals suck (and not in a good way like in the TOS trek, where I can live with it)
π: 0 β©: 1
AdamKop In reply to ACXtreme [2013-03-05 12:30:06 +0000 UTC]
Yeah I didn't have a chance to watch B5 earlier and right now it looks a bit too rough for my tastes as well. I'm sure that if a remake was made, it would go the way of the new trek, throwing away all of its legacy.

ACXtreme In reply to AdamKop [2013-03-05 12:58:44 +0000 UTC]
still, if you get time, it's one of the best sci-fi stories I'v ever seen, much better then any star wars or star trek (including the series and movies).
It's even worth it, over the bad 3D they use in outer space, since most of the scenes are inside the station, that look alright.

B5 is my favourite series of all time, those big guns that are firing are actually mine launchers, the Narn G'Quan have them as well and they were seen firing them once in season 2.

Rogue284 [2013-03-04 23:22:45 +0000 UTC]
Pretty good, but I have to say that it lacks the "menace" of the original. The darker colours and angry red particle beams, and for some reason the colour scheme on this looks like the Confederacy ships from Star Wars; the grey and the blue like that. Still nice though.

Breandan-OCiarrai In reply to Rogue284 [2013-03-05 01:05:08 +0000 UTC]
The dark colours of the originals were actually a form of camouflage. They used matte greys and blacks that were non-reflective to minimize the LIDAR signature and make visual targeting difficult

Rogue284 In reply to Breandan-OCiarrai [2013-03-05 01:41:01 +0000 UTC]
