An illustration I did for Stardrift Empires, an mmo on Facebook, syfygames, and stardriftempires.com. I've been working on this project for the past few months at Blue Frog Gaming, which has been awesomely fun and challenging.

This is concept art for the urcath alien race. this was alot of fun to design. knowing that they were a chaotic, violent race race led me in the direction of a monster/ demon or something really out there or absurd. for some of them i had their anatomy reference human anatomy, b/c it seems more crazy if you can kinda relate to it, w/out it being exactly the same; like it's human but not. i started with the one in the top left, where it has 4 large hands/ claws with a small humanoid torso protected by spikes. i liked the idea of them having 4 legs, so i kept that throughout, but moved to having extra arms. some of them i opted for humanoid arms, that look a little disproportional on purpose. guess we didn't use those b/c they were becoming more demonic than alien. also we felt that having more than 6 limbs started to become a bit too complex and busy. the one of the far right was the final design we went with, which has this insect/crustacean look with a humanoid torso and arms, and a monstrous head with a gaping maw. there's a little dude there to show some scale; they're pretty big... thus a formidable foe

i really enjoyed doing these and kinda really want to continue doing some ridiculous monsters. it was interesting to push the design of these to something more demonic than just typical aliens. and i think it makes them scarier looking when incorporating something recognizable like humanoid limbs. i don't know...it's just kind of fun.
