I've been doing some of the challenges on conceptart.org recently. This one was for the character design of the week [chow] a few weeks ago, where we had to design a spirit caller, who uses her instrument to lead spirits to the afterlife. The challenge stated also that she had to have long, flowy cloth as a part of the design. I went with an African theme for this one, and she plays an instrument called a uhadi bow, which is a single stringed instrument played by plucking the string and tapping a wooden stick against it. I chose it mainly because it looked interestingly simple. I learned a ton about cloth folds trying to get those right, which was really enjoyable. I did a bunch of other thumbnails/ designs that I want to try 'n complete one of these days.
