Description Commission from Cincy Comicon 2014; Copic marker, ink, white paint pen, Charcoal pencil.

This one took me back. Original Doomsday. Man, the Death of Superman was such a formative experience for me as a young guy. Imagine a time when comics weren't constantly killing off and resurrecting characters. I know it's hard, but try and think of it. Try to think of what it would be like to grow up in an age where major "event" comics happened only once every few years at most. When they did the Death of Superman, I as an 11-year-old kid, genuinely believed it possible that he might actually stay dead. When the four new Supermen came along, I thought one of them was going to be the permanent new deal. And when Superman actually did come back, I was amazed and excited.

Now, they kill and resurrect characters every year. I remember talking with some of my 12-year-old students when Marvel "killed" Captain America (specifically, this was the time right after Civil War) and they were arguing about how long it would be before Marvel brought him back to life. When even children don't think your storyline has any narrative tension or dramatic weight, it's time to let that particular story device rest for a while. Preferably a long while.
