Description This is an original character from the core cast of the comic I and my wife are developing - 'The Uniques.'

Telepath is one of the three leader-figures of the team, and is (obviously) a mentalist, but to keep it interesting, we made her a martial-artist and bo-fighter who uses her telekinesis to enhance her staff style.

My only qualm with this piece is that the hair got a little big, but otherwise she's a pretty nice realization of the character.

You can read more about her origin, powers, and story in her 'Better Know a Unique' entry on our blog: [link]

Have you ever had pecan pie and a side of pickle? It is just the most atrocious thing in the world. Bad combo, bad BAD!

Ok :::craaaaacks Knuckles.::::::

I've looked at 'em all, and I've read your summaries, as well as looked over your blogs.

I have to say I like the pictures of these characters you have inserted into your blogs, a little better. Maybe because they're all a little bit more dynamic, but by all rights these are basically models as far as I can tell.

Telepath is pretty interesting, though a tad uninspired, save for the ability to hold her own in a fight. I think that is fairly hip.

The drawing it self looks good. I see what you're saying abou the hair, and I agree. Her left foot looks a little disproportionate in that it looks like shes missing a heel, but thats simply nit picking at this point. I like her slender design, she seem pretty delicate which is a nice off-set for a character who will be engaging in ....fisticuffs...

The left leg/foot is supposed to be turned outward, so you're seeing the top of the foot (and thus no heel). A little confusing in the black, since there isn't a lot of visual detail. And yes, these are really just the model sheets for the characters. If the pose didn't show the full detail of the costuming and such, it had to be discarded for now.

I understand about the 'uninspired' thing, in part because Telepath is a character you have to get to know to understand. Her bio doesn't speak much to her personality, but the more you see her, the more interesting she will be. Hopefully. She's one of the leads of the book, so if she doesn't work, it'll collapse - we're hoping she'll work.

Then again, it might just be Cyclops Syndrome-- people just seem less interested in the leader types who actually try to be good people and follow rules and operate in a socially-acceptable and overtly heroic way. They're more into the anti-heroes and bastards; the ones who teeter on the dark side and always seem one mistake away from outright villainy.

Me? I like Cyclops. Always have.

It is a valid point, and I wasn't unaware that it was a factor in how characters appeal to me. I'm actually ashamed of that, really.

Still I don't find the idealistic hero unappealing at all. I find them to be a breath of fresh air when I actually get into them.

I guess a familiar imperfection to most readers is that factor that its difficult NOT to be bad, to not allow oneself the weakness of non compliance and all that jazz. But, shit, Adam we can and I'm sure have discussed the dichotomy of the psyche of a superhero, and its a never ending debate. Why CAN'T we have Superman back? Why does every superhero film have to explore the inner battles of our classic and favorite heroes? There's nothing wrong with a hero being "human" per se, its just lately has become so friggin trite. I suppose thats why feel a little embarassed to find so much appeal in what has become such a popular trait in comics and superhero films today.

Shite...I went on a tangent. Either way, I'm anticipating the character more now. Whats the plot on publishing by the way? Are you guys going to print this your selves or push for a company to pick it up?

you can ignore that publishing question, I'm sure I'll find that in your blog.

Again, I went off there for a moment. Typing faster than thought.

I enjoyed the tangent, so don't worry. And we do intend to explore the idea of being a hero from a more 'normal' standpoint. Part of what we're looking for, here, is to find the normal within the extraordinary, and the ways that (after long enough) even the most amazing things can become commonplace.

Look at cell-phones-- within fifty years, we've gone from clunky rotary phones to tiny digital things that fit in the palm of your hand, need no wires, can take pictures and video and connect to the internet (which, itself, only came into existance a couple decades ago). Look fifty years before THAT, and a significant percentage of people didn't even HAVE phones.

Now imagine that Superheroes and their powers have been around since 1939. At what point do people without powers stop trying to be 'super' and just become a part of society? Instead of calling yourself "Electro", you get a job at a power plant providing cheap, clean energy 9 to 5 while you catch up on your reading.

It's an idea, anyway. We don't want to be too deconstructionist, and certainly don't adhere to the 'reality means pain, whining, and personal suffering at all times' dogma that, say, Marvel likes to push. Nor are our characters perfect paragons of reighteousness. They're teenagers, and they'll look, act, and talk like teenagers.

For publishing - we're going to work up the first issue and shop it around. If nobody bites, we'll start looking at self-publishing. One way or another, The Uniques is going to be realized.
