Description Normally I don't post my journalism shots here, but I thought this one was important.

I'm not a flag waver.
I'm not a conservative.
I'm not a sheep.
I am disgusted at this country.
I am a patriot in the true sense of the word.

The elite have polluted this country.
The masses have fed on it.
The individuals must take it back.

beautiful composition.

try putting a tripod down anywhere in Washington, DC
i can be scary too, but if the guys telling you to stop are wearing uniforms and big guns it sorta becomes futile.

A friend of mine had to take pictures of bones for an assignment, so he stopped on the side of the road in Hamm Lake, MN and took a few shots of a deer carcas. A cop pulled over and told him that it's illegal to take pictures of roadkill in Hamm Lake...my friend asked him what he was going to to about it and my friend got arrested...for taking pictures of a dead deer. This country has some messed up shit going on, but that was crazy.

Great shot and cutline information Conan and know that you don't stand alone. The problem is that change requires resources and leaders, which it would appear we are a bit short of.

Unfortunately it isn't just the US that has the security mafia going on. I was down at the Opera House a few weeks ago shooting a friends band when I was told that I was not allowed to photograph anything in that area. When I pointed out that I was on public property and that by law I could shoot whatever the hell I wanted to, and asked to either speak to the manager or show me where in writing they had permission to prevent photographs being taken, he ran off. I may not be as big and scary as a security guard but I can be loud and push my rights when I need to.

Download the PhotoshopUser Tv Episodes 141 and 142. 141 has a lawyer talking about the rights of a photographer and does briefly talk about this very thing.

In short, cops can't take your camera either.... legally.

In adulthood I've realized how afraid I can be of getting in trouble sometimes. I have to remind myself that I am elite* and can do what I want within limits. An conscious awareness of the legality of an action certainly imparts a level of boldness.

Amazing picture though.

*Within in my own head and therefore I assume within everybody else's eyes.

To be completely honest the only reason I asked if it was a cop is because I am on probation for something dumb I did a few years back and I have to be nice to them for another 6 months.

But you also have to remember that what a cop is "allowed" to do,and what they do anyways are usually far from the same thing.

you know what's ironic? people who say soldiers die for our freedom. who were the last soldiers to die for anybody's freedom in america? something tells me those who fought during the civil war; other than that, the only threat to our freedoms have come from the inside, and the only 'soldiers' fighting for our rights those who died in the streets by the hands (see also: guns) of those who are supposed to 'rotect' us, aka the police.

addictedImage In reply to ja [2008-08-07 16:12:43 +0000 UTC]

Soldiers die for each other. Nothing else.
It's the rich men that send them off to protect their profit margins.

Soldiers only trust other soldiers, but the majority believe in values such as honor and commitment. It is the fact that soldiers are recruited from a youthful population not having a full education that comes with greater studies of history that in turn creates armies. A lot of that knowledge is suppressed as you, as an American, can attest too. This is exploited by our corporate leadership and has been since the corporation was established.

bitzar In reply to ja [2008-08-07 12:06:06 +0000 UTC]

The people who die while fighting for a cause died for that cause. If a kid dies in Iraq tomorrow because he thinks he is protecting his family and friends at home and their freedoms, I'm certainly not going to try to take that away.

I certainly think there is more of a conscious idealistic morality of the soldiers who left to fight this than the often educated men who fought to keep the union together in the 1800s.

If anything I'd put the Revolution, the War of 1812 and WWII as the only wars that involved the freedom of the US because they were involved with procuring freedom or preventing it from being removed from us.

Even WWII was influenced by corporate greed. Try researching how many American oil tankers were destroyed on the open seas by the Germans. Then observe where the oil was going and WHO owned the resources.

I'm a photojournalist myself and you know what? It's one thing to live in fear or paranoia that something bad might happen. It's another when people start stepping over the freedoms that we have in our country and we begin to lose what the the country stands for.

Good work. I have a similar story, but there was actual confrontation where my a broken lens was traded for a broken nose.

Great, how do we start? Ever since I have learned about the government till now, makes me sick to think that this is one of the freeist country's on the planet, but it could be so much better, if it was making more laws to set people free instead of restricting them with stupid crap laws that only serve to make those few richer and the little guys porer

Indeed, I had an episode just like that here in Lisbon.
Since we don't have terrorist act laws like that... though we supported the US and UK against Iraq with our strategic landing site in the Atlantic, and hundreds of CIA planes freely, and illegally, used our airports, the "terrorists" (as the powers that be called them) only came as far as Spain...
About the taking pictures of a building thing. Two overzealous and true scholars of the security guard encyclopaedia came to me saying I had to have a written permission from the administrator of the company (portugal's communications "giant) to take a picture...
I said: "are you kidding me?" they said "those are the rules"...
Wtf?
I had taken the picture already so, I walked away. But if any of those guys tried to grab my camera... man...

Lucky you weren't in England, I knew a guy that was arrested under the terrorism act for taking pics with an SLR, just because his camera was expensive and he refused to show them what was on his memory card, they assumed he was a terrorist. Just wtf?

But I totally agree with this;

'The elite have polluted this country.
The masses have fed on it.
The individuals must take it back.'

It screams of what is happening over here too, i'm waiting for another rebellion actually.

Things are going to have to get a lot worse for people to rise up. They are kept just below comfort level, and it wears them down, but doesn't drive them to desperation.

Lord-Aradon In reply to addictedImage [2008-08-11 08:19:51 +0000 UTC]

Well it's close to desperation here, on the brink of recession, fuel prices are soaring, energy prices just sky rocketed, interest rates are hittin people hard, immigration levels are rediculous, crime is rife.
Bad times my friend.

Beautiful Shot, and True Meaning! i have been asked to stop taking pictures around my place of work aswell, i work in a local mall here in SD, and i have to test camera's when we get them in for repairs, but when i try to take test pictures outside around teh mall everytime the security comes up and tries to stop me... i typically dont stand up and say it like you did, but i always tell them esentially to go shove it im just doing me job!
