Description
I've been a bum too long and need to open commissions to pay for groceries and my dog's stuff @w@Any of these commission types I'm willing to do in any animal, including human. If I have never drawn the species you do want me to draw, ask me about it. I can do a quick sketch to prove I can draw it.
I also do pet art but right now, since I need to keep my current work hush-hush until it's uploaded on the site, I do not have any recent animals. If you want me to do petsite art for you contact me and I'll be able to give you a peek of some of my pet art.
Please note me sometime @u@

If it encourages more commissioners then it's cool by me xD
any information you feel to be important. If you don't give me much information then I'll be giving plenty of sketches, flats, etc until the design is completed to your liking.

So for quick soft shading, if I wanted you to do five cat characters, then it would be $27?

On the character design could you do the same pricing with a human animal combo, you see I have a character who's a shape shifter of sorts and he turns into a rare breed of tiger if you did him as human and tiger on one sheet would that cost more?
That was a really long question sorry.

AddictionHalfWay In reply to alicesapphriehail [2011-12-23 04:53:13 +0000 UTC]
I don't have different prices for humans and animals, I'm fine with either
Though if you're asking me for a ref sheet I don't know what I'd price it at (since ref sheets are tedious yet don't have shading, etc) so we'd have to discuss that if its a ref sheet you're thinking about.

Do you have a FurAffinity account? I'll probably get flogged for mentioning that site here, but I started going on there recently and I got a big audience willing to purchase work at a good, reasonable price compared to some of the more stingy deviantART go-ers. I think you'd do pretty well on there, if you're not already.

AddictionHalfWay In reply to Submerse [2011-10-03 00:51:54 +0000 UTC]
Yes I do but since like 90% of the offers are yiff (I've gotten offers on there before :I ).. I'm no good with sexual poses and whatnot so I'm not even going to bother continuously telling people "I can't draw that" isn't something I like doing D8

Submerse In reply to AddictionHalfWay [2011-10-03 08:59:48 +0000 UTC]
Usually you can write "Won't draw porn" or something similar on your price sheet, people are pretty good at just sticking to normal commissions.

AddictionHalfWay In reply to Submerse [2011-10-03 15:01:52 +0000 UTC]
Yeah I did that once and then I just didn't get any commissions :c I don't suppose you know of a person on FA that's a good example of someone that never draws yiff for commissions but still gets commissions? Because I never saw one..

I think I'm a good example haha? I'm Kaitycuddle on FA, and I have a pretty constant stream of commissioners. I have the option to draw porn (although I'd only ever do light stuff), but I've only ever done one of those, the rest have been completely classy.

Submerse In reply to AddictionHalfWay [2011-10-03 18:08:32 +0000 UTC]
Definitely. Compared to what I used to advertise on DA, my prices are way higher. You might not be able to start off with what you absolutely think you should sell for, but it doesn't take long to get a following on FA, and then you can up them as you please.

I'd rather get a lot of cheap commissions done than only one or two fairly priced ones I don't think there'll be much demand for my art.

Furrama In reply to AddictionHalfWay [2011-10-01 20:51:51 +0000 UTC]
The thing is that enough artist with that attitude drives prices down for the rest of us. I very rarely see anyone on dA actually price things at what they're worth. If you look at how long it takes you to draw something and figure out what you are getting paid per hour you'll find that you are way below minimum wage. Why not just go and work at McDonalds? You'd make more money at a steadier rate.
If you don't value your work higher no one else will.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
AddictionHalfWay In reply to Furrama [2011-10-01 21:04:52 +0000 UTC]
Yes, I know I'm below minimum wage lines. I wouldn't be doing cheap commissions on DA if I could get a job at McDonalds but no one hires someone with no job experience. I'm completely aware I should be getting more, hell, if I could just get commissions in the real world like a normal artist then I could sell for $100 - $200. But again, haven't been able to get that one going yet.
While I'm not one of the confident artist types, I do value my work. But I don't think there'll be much demand for it anyways since I'm fairly certain most of my watchers aren't old enough to even have a job and most of the others only keep up with me for Witch Eyes (aka, meaning they probably won't even notice I submitted this commission thing xD )
If the internet proves me wrong then I'd love to raise my prices to something better.
So please don't point out the cheapness of it all It's not like I enjoy selling myself short.

Furrama In reply to AddictionHalfWay [2011-10-01 21:39:16 +0000 UTC]
Don't get me wrong, I do understand. My commission prices are pretty cheap also considering. dA is a horrible breeding ground when it comes to setting prices.
Have you tried posting on the forums or getting an Etsy account? Setting up a blog or portfolio and contacting businesses near you (free lance style) will probably net your more money for your time in the long run. Make business cards, mail them to your friends and family to pass out.
Just please please in the eventual future set your prices to at least be minimum wage. You owe yourself that much, and these if these kids with pocket money don't understand that then they don't deserve your work.

I'm afraid the only forum I post on is Virtualpetlist.com, and that is only for petsite artwork I do. I haven't been able to find another forum that was worth dealing with.. and no I don't have nor have I thought of getting and Etsy.. it looks like a site that's for a different crowd than sparkley digitally drawn critters xD Though maybe there's some hidden Etsy community I haven't seen yet? Wouldn't know, I barely know the animal community on DA as is @o@
:dexjeakilo: and I are setting up a commission website together at the very least but until I start seeing customers from outside DA, I'm not going to be able to change the prices xux In the meantime I am doing painting stuff for auctions at anime conventions @__@ though from what I hear the prices on those can be somewhat underwhelming but I'll test the waters on that before I make a concrete opinion of course..
I certainly do plan to reach a better price for my art work in the future once the demand is right. I don't like drawing wolfies as is, I sure don't like doing it underpriced lol But it's easier to raise prices on commissions than lowering them because no one would buy
At the very least my petsite artwork tends never to be underpriced 8D $20 for image plus like $2 for recolors and recolors take 2 seconds to make & websites have like +12 recolors \o/ like 4 - 5 hour picture for like $60. It's just hard sometimes to find enough work when dealing with petsites.

Perhaps you should expand what you draw? A wider marketability couldn't hurt. If you want to be taken seriously you need to have more than just a random collection of commissioned sparkledogs. Try your hand at logos and graphic design, or try going full blown painting artsy fartsy and try to get into a few local galleries.
But good luck to you. Arting is hard.

Oh I do. I do realism but only on paper (digital realism hurts my shoulder because of the fur x_x ) but I don't have a scanner big enough for the paper sizes I use xDD and I don't have the money for an acceptable camera. Once I'm not busy for nekocon though (assuming I don't end up simply preparing for another con) I intend to get my traditional art going one way or another and likely doing pet portraits. I could cut a deal with local pet stores to advertise my artwork
Arting sure is hard Cx but my dad is an artist and my grandpa is an artist so I wouldn't have it any other way.
