Maybe I can explain:
Those who come from Singapore, Are simply called Singaporeans.
"Singa" is also a real word in Malay, It means "lion".
It is based on the legend of how "Sang Nila Utama" founded Singapore, Having named it after seeing what he believed to be a lion.
