Description If the eeveelutions got changed to all be results of evolution-stones, these are the stones I'd pick for each eeveelution.
I normally see people suggest Sun/Moon stones for the GS-eeveelutions (seems obvious considering they are day/night counterparts, as well as already having had Sun and Moon "Shards" as evolution items in Gale of Darkness), but I always felt like Sun and Moon stone have too much thematic flavor to them, while the others are more raw and obvious elemental energy.
And the Shiny and Dusk stones represent day and night as well, just in more elemental aspects.

Clarification: The Shiny and Dusk stones are called the Light and Darkness stones in japanese. The translators messed up and named the "Awakening stone" the Dawn Stone, which unfortunately makes it seem like a counterpart to the Dusk stone to international players, when the Dawn stone is the "special" stone with a unique gimmick, and the Shiny and Dusk stones are counterpart stones that always get new evolutions added simultaneously.

For Sylveon I see 2 options actually. The Moon Stone could be a solid choice for it even moreso than for Umbreon, due to the moons association with the Fairy-type in some aspects.
But since it is a Sun stone counterpart...I prefer the Dawn Stone.

Of course the Dawn Stone would probably require that Sylveon be a gender-specific evolution only...which would probably be female.
And if we consider that Eevee has a 7:1 male to female ratio that would actually make it more special and fit the concept of the Dawn stone of "bringing out an unexpected side of a PokΓ©mon-line" in that sense.

...of course this is just for fun, as none of this is ever going to happen, since GF is obsessed with coming up with unnecessary things just to not break consistency and avoid making any retcons XD

Nice idea/. I agree with your thinking with the current Eeveelutions but once there are more I think it could be revised slightly and could even hint at which types will be next e.g:

Sun Stone - Espeon

Moon Stone - Umbreon

Shiny Stone - Sylveon

Dawn/Awakening Stone - Dragon-type

Dusk Stone - Ghost-type

Basically, I stand by my explanation in the description above, so my reply could just be the same info again xD

I posted this in August and until now never came back to check it and compare it with a curious detail added in SwSh:
1. Leafeon and Glaceon have been retconned to now evolve via their obviously appropriate evolutionary stones.
2. At the lake of outrage, there is a circle of 8 giant stones, each of them having a hidden evolutionary stone that respawns on a daily basis, with a daily overworld spawn eeveelution walking around next to it (with species differing depending on weather).
The 8 evolutionary stones that spawn there correspond 100% to the stones in my graphic (as in, there is no Sun and Moon stone to be found)

So I don't even see this as a throwaway speculative unlikely idea anymore (cause I never expected Leafeon/Glaceon to be retconned in the first place). I don't think it's a coincidence and take this as Gamefreaks logic being in line with mine on what stones would correspond to the eeveelutions, if they were to associate all of them with one.

That's interesting! I knew about the circle of stones but hadn't realised they had made it so they all work like that. Well done for getting that right then!

Hopefully they will go with my idea for the Sun and Moon stones then

Sadly this might mean bad news for those of us who want more Eeveelutions in the future...

For how regularly GF seems to create new continuities as of late (mostly thanks to its insistence on remakes), you'd think they would be more willing to retcon messy evolution methods!Β

Yeah, they've shown some really glaring contradictory ideas recently.
...like on one hand a simplified remake of Yellow lacks basic evolutions like Crobat, but at the same time, Charizard can Mega evolve xD

Exactly! We're all sitting here like; "Why not both?"

In German the shiny and the dusk stone are translated correctly (they are named Lichtstein und Finsterstein which is the direct translation from japanese) and the dawn stone is named Funkelstein which means glittering stone.

Yea, I actually played gen4 games in german originally, so I only started noticing this as I started interacting with PKMN fans in english online xD

You speak german, too? Gen 4 was my first generation technically, but i didnt really play it then because i was like 6, so my real first gen was 5.

I do, learned it a bit earlier than english
I've been into Pokemon from the beginning of the franchise, but so far, Gen5 has been the highlight to me, so I figure it must have been quite different and interesting to be getting into PKMN with those as the first games ;o
