I loose a lot of details in my scans... :/
I use a program to see the drawing before it get scanned. Do some adjustment to pick up as much details as possible, I always have to do some editing on the picture after - and I'm never satisfied with how it turns out, but I guess it is a good thing that the drawing is hard to "copy"

Yeah, I run into the same problems. I tend to get shadows or odd colors around the edges.
