So one day, Demeter went to the sacred gardens at the base of Olympus, and there she poured all of her power into a flower. She worked hard and did her best to imagine the perfect child. She would be sweet as nectar, as beautiful as roses, as graceful as an orchid, and strong like an oak. A day and a night did she toil, until finally, with the dawn, the flower bloomed and laid within its petals was the child of her dreams. She named her Persephone, and all of Olympus rejoiced to share in Demeter's joy.

Terpsichore: Oh, I remember that party! Zeus ordered the stars to dance to celebrate!

Calliope: And some of us thought that Persephone carried the energy from that party right the way through her immortal life.

Persephone was a sweet child, kind and full of excitement and curiosity about the world around her. Demeter was protective - she had her perfect child and loved her so fiercely she would allow no harm to come upon her. Demeter didn't let her daughter out of her sight, instead having the child accompany her around the Greek world, where Persephone learned her power over plants and flowers.

And she grew into a beautiful young woman, always happy, always eager to help her mother, even if she often grew frustrated with the restrictions Demeter placed on her for fear of her safety. Persephone only really went to Olympus for special occasions, such as when Zeus and Hera introduced their son Hercules to the rest of the gods not long after he was born. But just as quickly, she and Demeter left to continue their work. And whenever Demeter went where Persephone could not, she was always left in a special garden to entertain herself. Yes, this was confining, and somewhat condescending... but Persephone still loved her mother dearly.

She just had no idea what road the fates would have her walk down...
