Description
I kind of wish I didn't have to pick between traditional and digital for this (aren't things like Anatomy and Perspective kind of useful in both?) but I went with Traditional since that's what I do.Pose is in the gallery here:
You can find more perspective and foreshortening poses in my gallery in this folder !
Pardon spelling mistakes and general rambling. I promised *shuu-bunni I'd make one of these.
DON'T FEAR THE FORESHORTENING! ATTACK IT WITH VIGOR!

You know...I never thought about using lines to keep your proportion in line
I have always been drawing what I see and using prospective lines, which I dislike, and your way seems a little better
I will keep that in mind

cool!! There's lots of methods and they are all pretty useful; more useful when you can combine lots of things!

I don't know if you have already discuss this but how about those perspective lines? The lines that lead up to a vanishing point and how a pose fit in between those lines. I found so little about dynamic poses and wish to improve upon it. Any tip?

AdorkaStock In reply to FlameFairy [2011-08-24 17:40:15 +0000 UTC]
Oh yeah! I've never used them but I can imagine they would be pretty useful for at least visualizing the core or sections of the body being foreshortened in space if you don't have a reference. I use vanishing point for things like buildings and stuff, but those have straight lines. I imagine if you practice you could get pretty good at using them for people, too.

Very well done!
I'm one of the people whom always sees it as an arm or a leg and not a rectangle or whatever it is in the pose.
This tutorial helped me out so much. Thank you for posting this!

This... this is absolutely amazing and exactly what I've needed for ages. Thank you so much.
For the longest time I've been able to become pretty decent at skeletons-- being able to get the general idea for the body; but my foreshortening has always given my issues. It just never looked quite right. What you've show here is sort of a combination of both skeleton and form-- both which are necessary for being able to pull off dynamic poses.
The ironic thing is when I was young, I was ALWAYS drawing from form; I didn't understand basic anatomy so I did my best by copying what I saw. When I discovered skeleton technique I abandoned form, thinking it was a juvenile method of drawing. You've shown me that it wasn't-- it just needs a good understanding of both.
So seriously, thank you so much for this-- I'll be sure to put it to good use!

This is very helpful! I'm planning on using lots of references to get better.
Also, that kitty in the top corner of the picture every time just amused me to no end. (It's so cute! My cat sniffs shoes too!)

It's a hell of a lot harder to improve in drawing figures without reference. Not trying to be rude but that's the point of figure drawing and such.
