Description "I watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tanhauser Gate"

It's the romance of Roy Batty's soliloquy that conjures up for me a far off exoctic place in the cosmos. I imangined the gate to be of ancient origin, built eons ago by a space faring civilisation. I imagined the c-beams to be interstellar arc lights of unknown origin and were intentionally incorporated to help give the gate an ominous yet mysterious feel. We see Roy in the lower forground looking out in awe at this feat of wonder .

I always interpreted it as flashes of particle weapons at an Einstein-Rosen stargate in space.

Thats a cool idea. I was attempting to capture that sence of awe and mystery, remember Roy is depicting a very emotional account of the things he has seen at the end of his life and we as the viewer and listener are in awe and wonder. I wanted to capture an essence of that in this piece.

cool I've always pictured the Tanhauser gate to be the name of a famous space battle the equivalent of Trafalgar or Thermopylae and C-beams were the Highpower-laser beams between two opposing fleets and roy as a pilot in the battle... I really like this view of it as a place and a literal gate.

Just to add to the point, correction..."Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion" yes that sounds military to me. So I understand your point as well. I likeyour idea that it was similar to the Battle of Trafalgar or Thermopylae. interesting vision.

Its interesting because I havent read any evidence to the reason behind David Peoples screenwrite of Roy's discription of these far off exoctic places, so whether it's military remains uncertain. I interpreted the image as Roy's nostalgic recollection. Its both a joyous and a sad moment in his last few minutes of his life, so i wanted to capture that awsome spectacle he describes.

Yes I think it was left purposely vauge and open to interpretation to add to the sense of mystery and wonder at the awe-inspiring things he had seen in his short life.

Don't give Ridley anymore ideas for dreadful films based on his masterpieces...

This is epic and the depiction of Roy is joy! Magnificent!

Lol! Well lets hope he doesnt ruin BR 2. I truly believe we went through the best of Sci-fi movies between 1977-1984. It was how Directors, Crew and Actors went through developmental hells but came up with the goods. These days its too easy to rely heavily on CGI.

I read a sequel to the film - F***ing shit! AVOID!!!

And look at Prometheus to see the point!

Again wonderful image and Roy's minimal portrait has explosive impact here.

C'EST BON!! A pleasure sir

Lol!!!Like you need to be told that...but heh we all need to console one another in empathy and count ourselfs lucky we were around at that glorious time. But its about time we repeat that again with some good ol fasioned scifi film making, I mean F***in hell there are some phenominal story tellers out there where the opportunities are immense to produce some great scifi visions. There i've had my rant on the soap box.

Stunning, though I'd always assumed the C-beams would have been ship weapons due to Batty's role as a military replicant and the Tanhauser Gate being a some neo-gothic jump gate allowing for FTL travel to off world colonies.

Thankyou for faving!

Yeh. you know I was putting a romantic slant on the piece based on Roy's soliloquy. Despite his millitary background he was just living those last moments of nostalgia to put a point across to deckard that he had loved life as much as the next man if not more. If you recall the words he said to Chew "If you could see what I have seen with your eye's.

Great! I've listened a lot to Vangelis while making my space photomanipulations on Mars. His music (not only Blade Runner) is awe-inspiring. The soundtrack of 1492 is especially strong. Moxica & The Horse !
Keep the good work Mark, this is really awesome!

I know the 1st theme and I've watched parts of the concert videos, but I haven't yet listened to it fully. It's not the one that attracts me best.
If you search space inspiration in music, you must listen to Jean Michel Jarre's album Rendez-Vous, and to almost all Michael Stearns. They are both masters of powerful synthesizer. You probably know them already!
