Description
A piece of space art I started on 9/21/2011 while trying to make a comeback to DeviantART. I ended up taking much longer than originally planned, but here it is. I have about 6 other WIPs that are almost finished and ready to upload! In this one I wanted to make a more earthlike atmosphere which is why I decided to use an earth texture which can be found here: [link]
The colors are more saturated and the feel is more soft and round to this one because I wanted to try something new and easier on the eyes for once. I feel as though it took away from the impression of doom unfortunately since the feel is too "happy" when really it is a scene of a double catastrophe that will imminently end all of mankind. The comet was inspired by Armageddon since I had just watched the movie again, and the emanating sun because of this video that explained in detail how the sun would grow in the future and engulf half of the system before it would shrink back in the a white dwarf and possible a black hole due to its density that will have amassed by the time it runs out of fuel.
Tell me what you think!

Hehe it sure did! Once you've seen those rough necks in armageddon blow up that hell hole I'm sure it's the logical thing to do next, flip it off! Haha

Never heard of it. In my defense, you've probably never heard of "Banlieue 13"

Yes but Armageddon had Bruce Willis in it, is a classic and was directed by Steven Spielberg. Kinda hard to not have heard of it. But you should check it out, it's a really good movie

Lets sure hope so! Though in many millenias away it is bound to happen. It may well end up like some scifi show where we try to migrate to another solar system. Hopefully by then we will have advanced technologically enough hehe!

- Yeah!IΒ΄m sure that someday, the mankind will discover a way to travel faster that the lightspeed. This way,we can spread among the stars!

Hopefully it is possible. Even if they make machines capable of going so fast, I am not sure if there is a way to actually transport living beings. I remember a long time ago reading a documentary about how life wouldn't be able to survive transportation at such high speeds because not only would the g-force crush us completely, but our actual life essence wouldn't be able to follow according to theories made by Einstein. But until today, these still remain a mystery as whether it is true or not since we still can't travel that fast.

- On this point,is important keep in mind that the reality always surprise(And surpass!)the most daring foresights! In 1885,a Julio VerneΒ΄s book called Robur the Conqueror mentioned a big aircraft that could fly with a speed 120Km/h(75 miles/h).In 1945(Only 60 years later),a B-29 superfortress could fly faster that this. And the SR-71(Spy aircraft, that begone fly on 60Β΄s)reach Mach 3!
So,I havenΒ΄t any doubt that someday,we will win the lightspeed limit.Maybe using like the jump on hyperspace(Star Wars),Warp system(Star Trek),or some other thing. The name and technical details arenΒ΄t imports. What really matter is that will be done!

This looks amazing. It really deserves the DD. Congrats.
Might I ask if you deliberately deviated from putting the planet in the middle?

I debated a lot whther to center it right or not. I thought if it was in center it would look too fabricated. But not exactpy at the center also makes it look a bit off so yeah. I couldnt make up my mind xD

Nevertheless, it's a fine piece of art. I personally like the fact that it's not in the middle. Simply because we are not used to it is what makes it look off. People usually dislike what they aren't familiar with.

The sun will actually become a red giant, not a red Super Giant when it's about ready to die. It will then shed layers into a Nebula.

I remember 3 yeqrs ago when I was looking at other space artists thinking the same. Then I tried and force taught myself and each time I tried a new piece I would learn more. If you want you could try for yourself and youll be a master in no time. All you need is photoshop and dedication

Awesome.
And yes for the record the sun we have is to small to turn in to a black hole. even do it still can go nova or grow thousands of time its own size. it will never go black hole not enough mass it will grow and maybe turn in to a cold red gianted that swallows earth and merc. I bet on the comet if it don't burn up in the sun.
π: 0 β©: 1
AdrienCGD In reply to Hoffers [2012-04-13 02:50:42 +0000 UTC]
So if I get this straight, it will first expand into a cold red giant, and then compress into a white dwarf? How much mass is needed for a sun to turn into a black hole?
Haha so youre hoping the comet kills us all? XD

Hoffers In reply to AdrienCGD [2012-04-13 11:09:46 +0000 UTC]
if this dot is the sun (.) it will be come this big in bilions of years maybe has it extend abour 1 cm in radius every 1000 of year or so.
it will only grow if it continues like it does now.
How much mass is needed to make a black hole? i don't know but i know our sun is to small to collaps in to its own mass and create one. If it did it will go like all the suns that we noted has "gone out" it will either go. KAMBOOMM! and woosh! small part of the milkyway is gone!. or go real fat and eat all the closes planets. and that to happen in the next 1000 years is unlikely we got a bigger chanse of a comet hitting us 50 times xD

phoenixofthenet In reply to ??? [2012-04-12 13:47:04 +0000 UTC]
Very awesome. Though, for the record, the sun lacks the mass to become a black hole.
π: 0 β©: 1
AdrienCGD In reply to phoenixofthenet [2012-04-13 02:48:33 +0000 UTC]
So even if it were able to compress itself as much as possible, it would never be dense enough? Aww... So what will happen? Will it become and stay a white dwarf?
π: 0 β©: 1
phoenixofthenet In reply to AdrienCGD [2012-04-13 05:33:34 +0000 UTC]
Yep. I'm not a physicist or anything, but I'm really fascinated by stuff like that, as I assume you are as well. The Sun lacks the necessary mass to have enough gravitational force to collapse in on itself the way supernovae do before they become black holes. Our poor little sun will spend the rest of time (after its death) as a relatively cold white dwarf star. Even if its ejections didn't incinerate every living thing on the planet, the dead star wouldn't put out enough heat or solar radiation to warm our planet, and the Earth would freeze to death.

AdrienCGD In reply to phoenixofthenet [2012-04-13 08:55:55 +0000 UTC]
Aww so it's like someone turned the heater off after it exploded pretty much? That sucks... I wanted a black hole XD
Haha all jokes aside, thanks for the clarification. But when you say a cold white dwarf, I'm sure it's still very hot. Just not as hot as it's current state which is needed for all life on earth to be thriving.
π: 0 β©: 1
phoenixofthenet In reply to AdrienCGD [2012-04-13 12:52:13 +0000 UTC]
Well, I really just meant cold as compared to other things in the Universe. Although, on an even longer cosmological timescale, white dwarf stars will eventually cool to black dwarf stars, which emit no light and very little heat. And beyond that, the protons in their atoms will eventually decay until an inert lump of matter is left behind. And eventually, they'll fade away completely. Just fizzle out, their matter simply ceasing to exist in any form we can see today. But this is like, final end stop heat death of the Universe itself we're talking, so that's quite a long ways off. Somewhere between 10-to-the-49 years and 10-to-the-200 years.

AdrienCGD In reply to phoenixofthenet [2012-04-14 00:26:48 +0000 UTC]
Wow my mind has just been blown away
So white dwarf cools down to black dwarf... are they visible still? How hot are they? And what does it mean when proton decay into an inert lump? Does it mean they simply aren't charged anymore?
And how is it possible for matter to simply stop existing? I believe there is antimatter which is the exact opposite to certain matters and when they collide, they disappear, giving off an incredible amount of energy. Maybe that's where the Higgs Boson comes in play, maybe it's a field that gives gravitational force and when it becomes exposed (when matter clashes with antimatter), then it becomes an incredible amount of energy. And that's where matter would be going instead of disappearing, it simply transforms into that mysterious field in the form of energy.
I don't believe that anything in the universe can be lost or created. It merely changes form. And for centuries scientists have been trying to see if it is possible for matter to be completely lost or created out of nothing. Certain theories have been trying to agree or argue but I believe the Higgs is what it all comes down to.
