Hey there, I've recently been having trouble with my version of Sai 32 bit and was looking for updates when I came across your tutorial.
I read through all of the info and I think understand the gist of it, however I just wanted to double check with you to make some things clearer if that's okay?
The version of Sai I have now came from a friend, so I haven't got a licence or certificate. I would really like to buy it myself though so I know I have the full version that I paid for. After reading your tutorial, am I right in thinking that the first step would be to purchase Sai v.1 before I do anything about getting v.2?
I ask because you say to put in the ID code for v.2 when downloading the software licence certificate instead of the ID code for version v.1, and I just want to be sure I'm doing this right since I would be choosing to buy v.1 as it says on the site. So I'm confused? Do I just swap out the v.1 code for the v.2 one even though I'm going through a link that says purchase v.1?
Of course this might be different if you're referring to people who already have v.1 installed and just need to update it with a new ID code.
I just want to make sure I'm putting the right ID code in and don't get anything wrong.
Sorry if this is rambly and doesn't make sense. I've read through your instructions multiple times to try and understand but since I'm completely new to this I still can't quite understand all the steps and what order they go in.

Yes the order a licence form has a name that says Sa V.1, but it works for sai 2 also.
Like you said, you're just going to change the system ID on that form. Then download the activation file; and it will work for the sai version or folder, you used the system id from, so either v1 or v2 .
Hope that made sense. You download the sai that you want , whatever version from their site.
There's not much to get wrong, once you have paid for a licence , it will be sent to the email you gave them. Then you can enter the numbers in as many time as you deem necessary .
As far as "" upgrade "" i'm unsure what that means. SAI v1 has only been updated a few times, and you can check the website to download the latest one. Sai 2 is currently always under development, so check back to see if you have a updated copy. If not, just download a fresh copy , and move the activation file, and all brush related files over, to sai 1, or 2 ( 2 is not easy to transfer brush settings over automatically ) .
If the activation file you have will not work, use you licence and its system id from the sai u want activated, to get the activation file you need.

Thanks for the guide! I downoaded it and the license and all that worked out however I'm missing my brushes from SAI 1 :/
Since in your screenshot there are some brushes I wondered if you maybe managed to bring brushes over? >w< I just can't find where they belong!
I tried just copying the brush containing folders "toolink" and "toolnrm" from SAI 1 to SAI 2 and restarted it, but it didnt give me any results, whereas the textures worked without any problems ( there were blotmap & brushtex folders in each of them so i just copied the content)
Btw.. i cant even remember how i managed to get more brushes for SAI 1 anyways, since it's been some time from when i made it 🙈
Maybe I'll figure something out but if you had an idea that'd be cool

Since its been some time, check if you have to most current SAI v 1. You can use your license to download a fresh copy of SAI 1,
and use its system ID to get another working copy of SAI v 1. so that you can use that until you figure out how brushes work in Sai v 2.
The way I import is just put all the Elemaps into the " bristle folder " . And I think there is a
" blop map folder" i think move all the brush form items into that folder from sai v.1
I guess thats it .SAI2 has a" Brushtex " and " papertex" folders too .
Im not sure how to import the settings for each brush into SAI2 . You might have to adjust the settings all over again; matching the brush settings .
( but im not sure yet ) .
Sai 2 has increased resolution for brush textures, etc. im not sure exactly what size.
And maybe because Sai 2 is still in development, so there might be some problems
toolink and toolnrm, and any other file, is probably unnecessary i think . So you can leave those in sai 1. and just try to move the images into the new sai 2 folders.
You should write the SAI developer, and ask him to add options for this . Koji Komatsu's email address. support@systemax.jp
Send him the pictures, like you did for me, to help illustrate exactly what you're saying.

I moved all the images into the folders and they are usable, I can make a bristle cloud brush for example~ maybe I'll just try adjust the settings like you said because the brush tiles are still empty but now that's probably gonna work as well c:

Hello! I'm having similar issues to the fist comment; I've already purchased the original Paint Tool Sai progam last year, and am now wanting to upgrade to version 2. I have followed all the steps as you described; however, even when I put the new ID into the certificate file, I still receive the same software license file from version 1 which is incompatible with 2.0. I have tried to redownload SAI 2.0 and put in the system ID it gives me (which is the same number each time), but I'm still unable to get the full version.
I'm not sure what I'm doing incorrectly, but I'd greatly appreciate your assistance with this if you have the time! Thanks very much!

I originally downloaded sai and the software license through Chrome, which didn't seem to be working this time around. I ended up switching to Internet Explorer to give it a shot. After a few failed attempts, I decided to restart my laptop and try again. After the restart, the software seemed to run fine. I can save and export files as I usually would. I'm not entirely sure why restarting seemed to fix everything, but *shrug* I'm just happy it's working ^^ Thanks again for the help!

Maybe, what web browser are you using ? Chrome, firefox etc ? This is probably a unrelated guess, but maybe the file is being changed by the browser someway ?
Try to download and install a different internet browser, and then download the file through that. And see if the file works then. If that fails, inbox me to discuss further options. Like i could try to use your numbers to download the file from my end, test it , if it works send it to you through a file share site link .

Systemax should really create a little page on how to use Sai 2. I am sorry if this bothers you, but maybe you can help me. I have a license for Sai 1.2.5 and heard that I can unlock with it Sai 2.0. So I ordered a new software license certificate after it told me that my old ones is a different computer ID. I put the new ID into the form instead my old one, but got the same software license certificate file, the one which doesn't work for 2.0.
After some miss tries I tried to look up if I did something wrong, apparently no, then I looked up if I have to buy a new one, and apparently that wasn't the case ether.
My question is now, what do I do wrong? Or is it changed and Sai 2 is now not free for users of 1.2.5 anymore?

I dont know if older Licences are a problem or not. I'm not sure yet.
But first try again, download a New version of SAI 2. or whatever " Use the ""system ID"" from the new exe version you downloaded and ran.
Put that into the Licence form ; with the Two Licence numbers you said you had.
Then press the download.
If still having problems, message me ( inbox ) , and maybe i can try to use your Licence for you, to get the Activation file . IF you have the licences. Just give me your system ID, for SAI you downloaded.
You put the activation file with the same Sai exe ; that you used the system ID .

Okay I found out what the problem was. Apparently was the last time I created a Certificate with Google Chrome and why ever, but after switching to Firefox the file I got seemed to work, even if it was the same one. Somehow I am now even more confused.

Ok so I bought the first version around four years ago and finally downloaded the second version, but there was no Paint Tool Sai V2 folder, just everything scattered in my downloads folder. I managed to open the program and some pop out message said that I was on trial mode because I didn't have a licence. I do have my old licence in the first versions folder, how do I get the new version to know it's there?
I can't really download a new licence because the Email i received long ago is lost, how do I activate it? Since it doesn't let me save or open any files.

You can also try Medi Bang Paint Pro, its free, and similar to paint tool sai .

If you still have the email address you used, and didn't delete the licence message, then maybe search your emails for " systemax ",
.If it appears, Then you try to use it , using the New system ID from Sai 2 or whatever.
You may want to try some of the money making ideas i suggested, to save up for sai 2. If i think of something else, I will let you know later.

If you brought v 1.2.5 ; and have a Licence, then you can try to use it to download a new file.

I think he would say, you need a Licence to get the activation file you want. The activation file you need, goes by a System ID, then you can get the version you want v1 or v2 using the two Licence numbers I described in the tutorial .
Without the Licence, im not sure how else to get it..

If you have a Licence e-mail that you used to buy SAI 1 , then you should be able to use that to get SAI 2 , and you can download Sai 1 again to be sure you have any updates to that too.
Theres no way to upgrade like with a button or something, like other programs .
Other then that, I looked at your digital art, and I think you could probably get the money for Sai just by trying some money making ideas that i wrote about above.

I think you mean, order a licence Form . The form will say v.1 : that does not matter its for both versions. they should write that on the site to avoid confusing people. But it will work . That Order-license form will send you a code to your email after you buy it , you can use for both sai 1 and SAI v.2
The only different thing you do at the Activation download Form : is copy paste the SAI V.2 "" System ID"" that you see in sai2's help menu , you copy-paste that into the form and when you download the Activation file it will work for SAI v.2 .
To get the sai 1 activation file from the form, you just get the ""System ID"" from the sai1 help menu ; then put that instead into the form to download it .
Finally just place the activation file into the folder and it will activate . make sure you put each activation file into the version of sai it belongs. a sai 1 activation file. wont unlock a sai 2 and vice versa. Just put them in the proper sai versions .

Errrm ; give them the 12 digit number. and the 8 character string ... They should have sent you the correct number of strings in the Licence e-mail they sent after your purchase : its the two rows. The third line is not needed .
Also make sure your keyboard keys are all functioning entering the correct keys.
You can also Copy -Paste the code. That way there's no input errors.
Review the instructions above again ; to be sure you did not misread or overlooked steps .
Without more information I cant be sure what lead to your exact problem . You'll have to try to be more specific . Also contact systemax or Koji Komatsu directly ; with your purchase details :

As long as you saved your Licence info , you can download the file about 30 times if i remember right.
Where are you seeing the message "" license certificate wasn't assigned to my computer, "" ?
Make sure you get the system ID from within the preview copy of Sai 2 run on the computer you're going to use Sai on. Enter that specific code into the licence form, along with your licence code, and it should results in the right file ? Just then just place that file into the Sai 2 preview folder, same folder as the EXE from which you started and got the system ID from. You cant use the same Activation file for SAI 1 . If you want the activation file for SAI 1, you have to use the system ID in SAI 1. Hope that made sense.
If you are having the issue still, you can try to give me more information of the steps you took before you had the problem. Or you can contact the developer by email, and give him screen images of what happened. support@systemax.jp

If the developer thinks that his release version is way different then the preview , then he Might ask people buy it again. That remains to be seen, but I am not certain what he will do. For now, the development preview appears to be very good to use as is .

You can download the activation file about 30 times i think. So you can try deleting everything and start over. But I think maybe there shouldn't be any extension on the activation file; last i remember I will look at my file too.
