Mother was . . . controlling, strict . . .obsessive. Everything had to be perfect. My appearance; clean, classy, neat. My behavior had to be proper and strictly in accordance to what she deemed appropriate for someone like me. Words and emotions were hard to figure out how to use. Disapproval was expressed with cold silence most of the time, sometimes if it was bad enough a good slap was in order. Looking someone in the eye was not tolerated at all. I don't even know what color her eyes were because of that.
I remember feeling smothered and afraid, as though everything I did would displease her. So I tried not to do anything at all unless I knew it was something she . . . well she didn't seem to like anything I did so whatever didn't displease her more than usual.

Eventually I was sent off to live with Rashad for reasons I'm not sure of, but I don't really care. At least with him I'm allowed to show emotion.

Been developing Azre a bit more these days and wanted to draw something. Ended up being about his mom, who wasn't exactly the best of mothers to him.

So the images of her in the picture are distorted according to Azre's feelings and memories of her. When he was younger he was outwardly emotionless and his mom was more accurate in his mind to what she really looked like. Though as mentioned he was never allowed to look at her eyes so he doesn't know what they look like.

As for the present day image on the right he's been away from her so long that his mind has made up things that aren't quite right. He remembers her being quite a bit taller than him, but knows he's grown so it's probably not as much of a difference as before. So while the difference between them isn't as big, he still thinks she's taller than she really is. Red eyes are just a subconscious guess, and details on the clothes aren't remembered at all, stuff like that etc.

Yes Azre deliberately wears more ruffian looking clothes and doesn't keep his hair as nice as he could out of rejection of the past. Though he can't quite reject it all completely. That line from Andara is something she said to Azre a lot and it's pretty ingrained in him.

She's also not from Maher's direct family, she married into the family.

Ah, and the scars on his arms are pretty new. He got them in a fight against Rashad, who was being controlled. The scars go through his arm so show up on both sides. He was lucky not to get any major veins skewered, just tendons and muscles really torn up.
