Description Pardon my language, but holy shit!! Holy shit i really did that! (download is bloody huge, but worth it, I think)

*ahem* I'm coherent now. I think. Man, and I thought Baharia was a big piece. This is another sketch I've had for a long time; this one was from July, 08. It's so nice to be able to finish things this way and not have to trace them onto better paper.

So, about this. As I've mentioned before , dance is a sacred form of communication for the erda. They believe words can't express true devotion. So, here is a dancer showing her faith and reaffirming the faith of those watching. This is in one of the smaller shrines you find in the lowland population. You don't find the massive stone cathedrals like you would in the mountains; these shrines are cozier and more personal.

It's too bad most of the shrine itself is covered. I really like it, so here it is on it's own.

I love my erda. They're so pretty and fluffy and sweet and bendable Yes, they really can bend like that. It's crazy

This is very nicely executed. The pose and the anatomy are so graceful and well done. The curvature of the spine and the balance is very believable despite the unique structure and anatomy of your subject; Even though it is a creature of fantasy, I believe your movements, even if they are in the extreme.

The grace and flow of the movement is very well conveyed even though the image is static, its easy for the viewer to imagine the next flow of movement in the dance.

The colors are vibrant and compliment each other very well, it highlights all the correct parts of the image and, even though you have very bright colors framing the image, somehow it really makes the more natural colored character the center point of the image, as it should be.

Very well done, I just stumbled upon your gallery, which I enjoy as a whole, but I decided to pick out one piece to comment on. You have a lot of talent and convey the story through your images very effectively. Keep up the great work!

I really like the idea behind this piece - showing faith wit dancing is a really nice idea 8)

The pose is quite interesting and you managed to pull it off without making it look weird :3
The species (erda is it? ) have a very interesting design - you combined hares and deer haven't you Great mix
You could give a little more mind to the shading and colours giving this piece more atmosphere. Keep that in mind next time :3

Ah thanks

I love drawing these guys; they're good for so many different poses. Took me forever to get it to look natural. Hm, they're not really based on anything, actually. I was thinking along the lines of bull terrier for the head, but that's really it.

Hm, alright. The background, especially the curtains and floor, were kinda rushed. I was tired of looking at it by that point XD I'll keep that in mind Thanks!

An Eeeerda! Aww GOSH I saw this and just gushed. As y'all should know I'm a huge sucker for the Erda race, so this is a big ol' instafave from me.

But wow, you are extremely talented with digital, I do say, and clearly you have a good grasp of the details done by hand. Why, you have a handle on both hand-drawn stuff AND texturing, and I truly admire that. More like "envious of". Haha!

Mindless asspats aside, this is a very gorgeous picture. The colors are bright and alive and jump out at the viewer. They give the piece an energetic feel, which is balanced out with the stationary pose. You pulled that off nicely! Hmmm... the only critique I could offer you on this one would be working on keeping lines clean with the folds, namely the curtains in the background. A steady hand would cure this easily, for every here and there it looks like your hand might have jumped or something.
-flashes thumbs up-

But back to the subject, doing a dance as an Erda must take a lot of muscle work. Imagine having to lift your whole lower body like that; determination, dedication, and practice, it probably takes a ton of those things. What are their dances like, if you don't mind me asking? Is it slow-and-meticulous like T'ai Chi in dance form, or more rhythmic like bellydancing? From the looks of this picture it could be either!

Very great piece overall though, I truly loved this one, and it was enjoyable to get to see an Erda again. Marvelous, marvelous work!

i admit i did finish this with you in mind. and once again, your comments make my day.

im glad the colors worked well. for awhile i was afraid it was a little too much. heh, thats one of the problems with doing erda; they have different opinions of what colors go together than we do, and tend to like very bright colors.

i think their dances are a little bit of both. i know theres a lot of movement, but i think it varies how fast or slow it is. i do know that it usually does involve some sort of gymnastics, but temple dancers like this one take that to a whole different level. these people are trained their whole lives for these dances, so theyre in incredible shape. all erda are strong, but just like not all humans can do a hand-stand, not all erda can do this. at least not easily.

Aah very interesting indeed, thanks for answering my question! That's very neat how they dance as a form of worship...there are a lot of societies here on Earth that do that, but I've never seen it used in a fictional race. Nice! So is dance their MAIN form of worship? I'm sure they have many other means of worshiping the gods, but dance sounds like their biggest one.

Hey you're very welcome though! Always eager to post a nice comment, that I am.

dance is a big one, but only the trained temple dancers are so extreme about it. for normal people, watching the dance does the same thing. most people have small home shrines or go to the main cathedrals (closest english word). theyll pray, burn incense or leave small offerings. their offerings are things like jewelry and flowers. small precious objects. (flowers are precious because they live in caves at high altitude, usually).

well look you made me ramble again

Oh no worries, I enjoy hearing folks rambling!

Aww that's so cool though, thanks for explaining that to me. I know I've said this time and time again, but I really admire the Erda race... so spiritual and dedicated. Some time in the future you must run me through their physical biology (you know... coat colors, gender differences, etc), because I've been wanting to draw some for the longest time. They're so cute, heehee...
