Description Ultra Fractal [link] . 7 layer Magnet 1 (Julia) 50 hour render. This was more what I was trying to do with Orbiter, but this set of formulas seemed to come together better.

Thank you, it's my favorite two colors to create fractals from. Glad you like them too.

Jesus, 50 hours... You have an amazingly useful amount of free time on your hands, my friend. Good work.

Thank you. Well, I'll only do a 50 hour render if it's Ultra Fractal. It's the only fractal program I've used that is really friendly on my system when it renders, although, I usually try to avoid the long ones. That's a long time to wait for a piece of art.

If I actually had any clue about the process involved in creating this, then, I'd be able to say something more intelligent than "this is REALLY beautiful, Jeff". So, This is really beautiful, Jeff

Well, if you ever want to learn fractals, just drop me a note, but til then, you've described it perfectly.

50 hour render... oh god.

that must have been annoying! and that must have been zoomed quite a lot for that.
I like the colours, and the fact that you waited 50 hours for this, very much.

congratulations, my dear

Katie

Thanks, Katie. I have a lot of memory, so I haven't noticed any system problems with UF. I'd never do that in apophysis though because it murders my system.

This has a great dynamic force! It's turbine force. Pretty Cool! I can imagine turbine powers during summer powering the ventilation system of a building or powering up the speed of a cruiser.

Thanks. When I worked on the F/A-18, we would dive the intakes and check the engine blades before we started the engines for maintenance work. After spinning the engine by hand to look at each blade for possible damage, that came to mind when I was working on this one. I don't think I could have figured out a different name than Turbine for this one.

Erosa In reply to Aeires [2004-12-15 20:54:15 +0000 UTC]

Yes, it's definitely turbine. One's experiences in likfe reflect on one's work.
Btw...when you prepare to print how much is the dimension you submit?
Do you set dpi in really fine print say like 1200 dpi? And the dimension like 17000 X 20000 pixels good enough for 20 X 30 inches?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aeires In reply to Erosa [2004-12-15 21:03:04 +0000 UTC]

Depends on the program I'm using because they render totally different. Here's the parameters I use right now:

Apophysis - 5000x3333 at 2000 density.
Ultra Fractal - 7500x5000 at 2500 density.

Supposedly, the eye can only see upto 300 dpi and there is a formula for calculating print size from dpi. For photography, you divide each x and y value by the dpi to get max print size. For example, you have an image that is 1200x900 at 300 dpi would give you a top quality print of 4x3 inches. DA might use a slightly different formula, but at my render size, I get 2x3 foot prints. I'm planning on experimenting with lower densities at higher sizes to see how the render times work, but haven't had anything to render yet. The best way is to find that happy medium spot that your computer will run at the fastest.

I was having problems here with setting up the size of the image for final print. Surely you have experienced a computer crash! or while the re-sizing up of a fractal image, it just stops...freezes. Many fractals are lost forever. With lots and lots of hours down the drain. [really sad]. But anyways, I will try to test my computers tolerable limits. Not to big [file size] and not to small [small size].
Thank you very much Aeries.
