Mars helicopter sets the next record!

Ingenuity made its 60th flight on Mars on September 25, 2023

The helicopter flew at a max. speed of 8 meters per second - a new record(!) -, covered a distance of 340 meters and stayed aloft for 132.8 seconds.

The previous fastest ground speed was 6.5 meters/second and was achieved during the 49th flight on Mars, on Sol 752 (April 2, 2023).

The last record was just 9 days ago. On September 16, 2023, the helicopter reached a new highest altitude of 20 meters.

In the most recent flight, the maximum altitude was 16 meters.

The time lapse movie is based on 10 frames taken by the navigation camera over a period of 20 seconds.

It shows the last part of the flight including landing.

Ingenuity's shadow on the surface of Mars is clearly visible.

As of September 26, 2023, Ingenuity has completed 60 flights on Mars.
The helicopter has flown a total of 13,644 meters (~44,768 ft), reached a maximum altitude of 20 meters and a fastest ground speed of 8 meters/second.
During its 60 flights, Ingenuity stayed aloft for a total of about 108.8 minutes.
