all is a go for the helm at the craft fair. Do you have any left? and how much are they?
This year the craft fair will be running for three days rather than two. I'll be teaching jewelry making, (possibly wire wrapping) and crochet, while there will also be plans for pop-up card making and shrinkey dink keychains!
I'll be teaching my butt off. but it'll be worth it.
Thanks again

The helm on a 16" chain is usually $79 but at Pirate Fest I sold them for $60. But again, I'm fine with donating one. Honestly, if the budget can swing it, I would like the money since RockLove's budget is a little down after a relatively unsuccessful Fest. HOWEVER if more appropriate (I absolutely don't want this coming out of somebody's pocket), I would be happy to donate!
The craft fair sounds great! Is it hosted in the school? In the library? You're going to be great!

Sure thing all we need is one on a black cord. Is that the one that's $60?
thanks
we host it in the library.

Oh right, black cord! I forgot!
Nope... let's do that for $45... does that sound okay? And if you want to pay for it, how shall we do it? Via website (so you can use a credit card or PayPal)? And do you need it soon enough that I should mail it or have Chris drop it off next time he's on the island? It's no prob to ship, I'll cover S&H and insurance.

most likely we are going to do a fund-raiser for library activities this year, because most of our funding was out of pocket last year. I'm going to bring up ideas such as a readathon, or we might do a standard bake sale. Our crafts and participants are much much larger this year, due to our recent advertising and events. It took a year to spread, and now it's huge. I love it. I'm so glad I can combine jewelry making and library science! We're talking about 1200 or so students and over 100 faculty. So I'm hoping our fund bank will be large. I'll let you know when we have the funds, and we can go from there. But if you sell out before December, don't worry. No need to hold the spot. Unless you can make another in the early December month.
thanks again!

I think the heart and flower accents are a great idea.
A friend who wants to get back into jewelry making asked me what books I would recommend. So, I thought I would beg the opinions of the artists of DA and compile them in my DA journal.
What three books would you most recommend about making jewelry? And may I post in my journal that you recommended them and place a link to your gallery?

Thank you for the question and your comments. And I would love a link to my gallery, though my answer may be a little different than expected.
I do not often read books about jewelry making; of course I love to peruse the latest Art Jewelry Magazine and oogle whatever i run across in the bookstore... but I believe the best resources are your fellow artists. My studies were in Florence as a jeweler's apprentice in a working studio, thus I never had a required reading list or standard textbooks. And the only way to get a question answered was to inquire - in Italian. Since then, I have always communicated directly with jewelers I find inspiring, asking them my questions and developing relationships with them as they share their valuable knowledge and anecdotes. It's such a kind and generous community, I would much rather support the independent by befriending and purchasing their work rather than trying to decipher a publication.

hey Lau, at the school I work at, we have a pirate theme for a mascot. We usually have events at the library, and some require prizes to be given out. Bracelets and key chains were given out last year. How much would the helm be on a black rope, if we were to purchase a prize for the kids? I showed your website to our librarian, and we would possibly be interested in one piece for the December month during craft week.
thanks

Awww that's so sweet hun! Thanks for the consideration. Lesse, I could put the helm on a black satin cord and do the double tie thing so it is adjustable... then, since it is for your kids, could we say $25? Is that okay? They are selling a few solitary pendants at the Pirate Fest for about $50 a pop - would a 50% discount be enough? My budget is kind of tight right now since I am trying to pay the guy that helped me with the website... maybe by December I could just give it to you for free? I feel bad charging anything for such a good cause. (clearly I am thinking while I type)...

anything you need to do. I wouldn't be requesting a discount, I just wanted to know if it could be on a cord for the kids. And I didn't see any listed like that. We would probably be purchasing in December, after our book fair and before our craft fair. The kids would love it, because it's both rock and school spirit.
thanks

Yah, it is not an official listing because it's not realllyyyy a full complete piece. But some customers at Pirate Fest wanted it that way so they could put it on a leather thong instead and I agreed to it. And a cord would reduce the cost significantly.
How about I donate one for free whenever it comes time. What's the point of having a company if you can't do charitable acts with it come the holiday season? I would be honored to have it be a prize.

Thank you very much! I spoke with the librarian and we are thinking of doing it along with our craft fair in December. I have no idea what I'll be teaching for craft fair this year, we haven't even made the pamphlet yet, nor advertised it yet. Last year it was basic wire and beading and crochet.
But the helm for a pirate theme will be perfect! If you need us to pay, we don't mind either.

No problem hun - I think the craft fair sounds really cool - I remember you telling me about it last year. Hmm... what to teach this year; that's tough! Is it usually a one day event or a few classes? I'd love to hear more about it.

Thank you! I'm glad you recognize their piratical allure - they will be featured in a few weeks at the St. Louis Pirate Fest and on super big sale if you are interested.
I lust after those keys... I just recently got them and love them dearly.
