After a barrage of attacks by yhe various folk that gathered to help, the beast retreated. It seemed as if it didn't take any further damage after it stilled. Seeing its head dissapear beyond the treeline made many of the folk gathered, especially those who weren't greavekeepers or guild members; sigh in releaf. Yet Dawn couldn't help but very filled with trepidation.
Dawn had hunted mega fuana. They had fought those that wished to turn folk into prey. They also had an encounter with a visitor once before. It was not a beast, but a monster. One of deception, that preyed on the travelers emotions and memories. Though Dawn knew that all visitors differed as travelers do, they couldn't help but think of that monster. He and his team barely made it out of there alive. There was something Dawn had learned from the many encounters he had with beasts and a monster; they come back. They will. They always do.
So while many folk started to pack up and let down their guard. Dawn couldn't, he couldn't relax. He was on edge, so much that he couldn't just stand still. So he decided to take a step forward. Dawn went up to God Godbrand as soon as they could, in order to join the scouts. After getting the approval of his guild leader. Dawn readeyed themselves to head out. Packing some first aid stuff, covering their shoulders with the small cloak their brother had gifted to him. Tightening the strab of his belt and chestplate, and securing their metal gauntlets; each with a small shield on the back. While he was doing such, he spotted Hydrangea from the corner of his eye. Knowing the danger ahead, they wanted to have a simple word with her before setting off.
They started to tie up their hair as they approached her. She was standing off to the side, glancing every so often at the place where the beast had disappeared into the wood. While her snakes continued to stare off. When she saw her teammate jog on over to her, she relaxed her stiff shoulders a bit. And half the snakes turned to greet them. "Hey, Hydra and snakes. Listen, you probably feel as much as I do that the beast is going to come back. So I'll keep it brief, I'm going to go scout with a few other folk." Hydra's face tenced up a bit at the news that he was going to go scout. She took a breath and with a small sigh "Alright, but be careful." Dawn nodded his head and headed over to the other scouts. With the sounds of Hydra's tail giving them their goodbyes.
As they set off, they made sure to stay as quiet as possible. A few other folk that were better at tracking led the way. Though it wasn't as hard as they thought. What with all the broken branches, and the heavy footfalls leading to deep tracks left in the dirt. Perhapse far too soon they started to heard the mournful moans of the beast. As they crept closer they soon caught sight of it. One of the leads motioned for someone to go up into a tree to get a better veiw. Dawn imeaditly Slunk over to one and silently crept up the rough bark. Their wings and long tail helped them balance on the branches when he stopped. There he saw the beast, slowly plodding forward. Till suddenly what seemed to be a shadow cut off its path.
It was something that Dawn had a hard time understanding what it exactly was he was looking at. It was at once flat as paper and as wide as it wanted to be. When Dawn got a glimpse of its orange and purple swirling eyes, he imeaditly felt instinctual fear of something unknown, that shouldn't be known. He almost gave the signal to retreat, but kept himself steady. Wanting to get as much info as possible. Dawn hears the strange words the shadow says, half of which he can understand. So far he hadn't truly understood what was going on exactly. Till he saw it enlargen and grab the crying beast by the throaght. They immeaditly turned his head away, and gave the signal to retreat. Out of the corner of his eye he saw the rest of the scouts rushing back, some having gone before he gave the signal. All had fear in their eyes and desperation in their steps. Dawn was getting ready to leap from the tree, and use his wings to glide and get a head start on beast and creature. But as he started to run, he couldn't help but look back when heard a wail and laughter. He wish he didn't. They wished they had never beheld such a horrible sight.
As soon as he broke the treeline into camp, Dawn called out to Hydra. "Hydra! We need vines!!" With the abomination a little behind him, he grabbed onto a near y tree and leaped up into the branches. As it stormed underneath his pearch, Dawn jumped down onto the back of its tail. Stabbing his trusty shovel deep into it, using his wings to keep some iota of balance. His third eye glanced up, furvently searching for Hydra. She was rushing towards him from the side, trying to stay in its blind spot. They locked eyes, and both nodded. As she neared Dawn, she leaped and grabbed onto his shovel's handle. Swinging off it, and using the momentum to stab sher shovel in deep as well. Both now craoching on the violently lashing thing, Hydra was much more stable as her snakes bit deep to keep her steady. She used magic to cuase vines to grow onto the handle of her own shovel, as Dawn tied a rope to the end of his.
The two folk jumped off the tail at the same time. Landing onto the ground unsteady, but still standing. As the abomination charged forward towards its escaping prize. The two gravekeepers stood firm behind and to the side of it, using the bindings tied to thier shovels still embedded into the tail; to keep the tail in check. They couldn't stop it from charging forward, but there were many folk at the forefront slowing its advancement. Along with those near the camp, hastily creating baracades to interrupt its rampage forward.
Dawns main eyes focused on the monumental task he and Hydra were undertaking. But his third eye continued to survey the battlefield, and most importantly the abomination. Watching as folk tied down the arms and body. Somehow a few folk had managed to tie bindings to the head and horns. Pulling the head in diffrent directions, giving folk the opening to retreat or dive forward. But they were eventully bucked off. A few folk quickly came up to Dawn and Hydra, starting to help by throwing ropes over the length of the tail, and pulling them tight as they could to pin it down into place. As they did so, it lessened the burden on the two folk. As the pressure eased, Dawn glanced once more across the battlefield; seeing all these folk that had come out to help a traveler that they didn't know. Although Dawn was still fearfull, anxious, and on edge; they couldn't help but feel determined and hopeful as the burden on his shoulders lessened slightly.
