Character
Name: Robinkit | Robinpaw | Robinstripe
Clan: SkyClan
Age: 40 moons
Gender: Tom
Rank: Warrior
History:
Robinstripe had a fairly ordinary upbringing--nothing in his life ever really went wrong. He had two parents, who loved each other and loved him very much, and although he was born the only kit in his litter, his parents had had a litter previously, and all the kittens from that litter treated him very lovingly as well. Robinstripe spent his kithood wanting to be an apprentice, like his older siblings, and spent his apprenticeship wanting to be a warrior like his older siblings--he wanted to be in the same place they were in, so he found himself wishing he were older a lot of the time. But, at his own pace, Robinkit became Robinpaw, and Robinpaw became Robinstripe.
Robinstripe's parents were very much in love, and as his older siblings started to take mates, Robinstripe found himself wanting the same. He definitely believed in love, watching his parents, and he wanted to feel the same feeling that made them always gravitate towards each other in a crowd. However, none of the she-cats in SkyClan seemed to hold his attention the same way, and in fact, he started to get a poor reputation. A heartbreaker--a player. Robinstripe wouldn't want to be coupled up with anyone for more than a moon. He didn't like his new reputation, and even if the she-cats did, he didn't really think it was fair. It wasn't that his attention was stolen by every new she-cat who walked passed it. It was simply that the she-cat he was trying to connect to wasn't right. And he could feel that it wasn't. The love his parents had for each other wasn't born out of this kind of love, and he felt sure of that. So, even when it meant there were really no she-cats left, Robinstripe remained single.
That was, until he met Ashleap. A fateful patrol led him to meet this ThunderClan she-cat, who was around his age, and somehow they'd never met at any Gathering. For the first time, Robinstripe could feel what he'd been searching for in so many others, but it was with a cat outside of his clan! As much as he knew it was a betrayal though, he couldn't deny the feeling. He and Ashleap started to meet in secret, and it was only a matter of time until they were mates, and Robinstripe found the great love he'd been searching for.
But their peaceful bliss only lasted so long. The first "problem" was good and bad. For any other pair of mates, it would have been wonderful news. Ashleap was pregnant. Robinstripe's first reaction was one of joy. He would be a father! Their kits would be so beautiful! But, he slowly realized, where would they go? Ashleap didn't seem to want to leave ThunderClan, and Robinstripe didn't want to leave SkyClan. Then, surely, the kits would stay with their mother. How often would he even be able to see them? As sad as that was, he didn't get to ruminate on it for too long. His own apprentice, Lilypaw, caught him meeting with Ashleap one night, and warned him to stop breaking the code. It felt awful to disappoint his apprentice--but it also felt awful to know he no longer knew what to do.
He met Ashleap again on the next moon, and they discussed their options. They had been caught--and if Lilypaw told Sparrowstar, Robinstripe could be exiled from the clan. Likewise, it was possible Ashleap would be exiled if it was discovered Robinstripe was the father of her kits. Tearfully, the pair agreed they had to break up. It was agonizing for Robinstripe. It wasn't a fling; he loved Ashleap, and he was sure he'd never love another cat like he loved her.
Robinstripe felt, despite everything, StarClan was on their side. After all, they let them be together for her kitting. Robinstripe groomed her fur and comforted her as best he could as they welcomed their two kits into the world; Aspenkit and Peachkit. Remarkably, Peachkit looked just like him, and Aspenkit, just like Ashleap. Although he thought he'd never love another cat as much as he loved Ashleap, looking down at his children made him realize he was wrong--he loved them so, so much.
And he couldn't lose them all to ThunderClan.
Robinstripe begged Ashleap to let him take one of them. They were broken up--they wouldn't meet every moon. When would the kits ever see him? Would they even know about him? He felt he deserved to be a part of their lives, and as much as he didn't want to choose just one kit, he knew he couldn't demand both of them, because Ashleap loved them too. But it just felt unfair that he should have to lose everything while she got to have a relationship with their children. In the end, Ashleap reluctantly agreed. Robinstripe suggested he take Aspenkit--the kit who looked like Ashleap. And she would keep Peachkit, who looked like him. They would be reminders of what was. Of their love, and of the family they could have been.
Thankfully, Sparrowstar seemed to believe his story about finding Aspenkit. He supposed that was another smart choice about taking them and not their sister--how could he explain somehow finding a kit who looked so much like him? Aspenkit was taken into the nursery and the queens shared responsibility taking care of their milk needs. Robinstripe did his best to fill all their other needs, visiting every day and spending time grooming them, cuddling with them, and telling them lots of stories. No matter what, he was determined to have a good relationship with his child. They were his family--his love, and he was going to cherish that.
But it was a bit of a problem when the clans decided they needed to leave their home and travel into the mountains. Obviously, the first problem was that Aspenkit was so young and small--but the other problem was that all the clans were traveling together. He didn't know if his heart could handle seeing Ashleap if she had moved on, and how could he handle seeing little Peachkit? It stressed him out, enough that even his child noticed. Regardless, he was determined to be strong for Aspenkit.
The journey was hard for a lot of reasons. Robinstripe felt guilty for bringing Aspenkit and Peachkit into the world at a time like this. Aspenkit had to grow up fast. Robinstripe knew when he was a kit, he spent his days relaxing beside his mother, trying to catch feathers and beetles that drifted around in the wind, and playing with his older siblings. Aspenkit was learning to hunt at just a few moons, and having to be carried around when their tiny pawpads got too sore to work. Robinstripe wished there was more he could have done; the best he could do was stay close to the queens to ensure Aspenkit continued to get as much milk and attention as the other kits did.
Although the first few moons, Robinstripe managed to keep them within SkyClan, things got more and more integrated the further through the mountains they went. It was inevitable that Robinstripe saw Ashleap again--but he wasn't really prepared for what he did see. It was clear his feelings hadn't changed. He loved Ashleap still, but it seemed... she had moved on. There was a big ginger tom beside her, and when he heard Peachkit talk to him, it sounded like she called him her dad. It stung to think he'd been replaced, not just as Ashleap's mate, but as Peachkit's father--and eventually, he did find a chance to pull Ashleap aside, and they made the decision to tell their kits the truth.
But it didn't go how he expected. Aspenkit and Peachkit both rejected their parents, as well as the fact that they broke the code to be together. Robinstripe knew they'd done wrong, but considering how much he valued family and love, he thought that they would see the importance of that too. It hurt to have Peachkit turn her back on him, but it was a small blessing that he hadn't fallen out of favor with Aspenkit, who seemed disappointed in his choices, but not to the point of icing him out. But the worst of all was when Ashleap asked Aspenkit to join her in ThunderClan. It felt like the cruelest betrayal to have his ex-mate try to steal his kit away when all he wanted was a connection to his family--and when he valued having Aspenkit with him so much. It was an overwhelming relief when the kit declined, seemingly more put off by the suggestion they would leave their father than anything else that had happened, and Robinstripe didn't have anything to say to Ashleap as he followed his kit away from the whole affair. His heart hurt, but he had to go on.
Despite everything, it seemed no one on the journey caught on to Aspenkit's origins and Robinstripe's code breaking. They arrived in their new home safely--and things went back to normal. Despite the pain of his heartbreak, Robinstripe had to be strong for his child, as well as to simply maintain appearances in SkyClan. He still misses Ashleap, but wonders now if she could really be the grand love of his life if she could do something so hurtful to him--and if she could move on so easily. For now, he's given up on love--being Aspenkit's father is his number one priority.
