Christmas and New Year's are actually the same.
The Winter Solctice (12-21 or so) is the true date of Christmas, being the day on which daylight is the shortest. The time of day being arbitrarily fixed long ago.
I see NO reason why one should wait until the ball drops on an excessively cold day of the year.I never went to Times Square to the idiot crowd.
