Description
This is for the monthly contest held by , this time the theme was pandas. I'm hoping I'll get ArtRage 4.And also for my friend, who requested a panda... and because I'm a evil jerk I drew red panda, even though she meant a normal one. That's what you get for not being specific.
This took so long. ;__; If I had to guess, I'd say at least ten hours, but it might've been fifteen or twenty...
It's late, so I'm not going to say much. Might add something later.
Ah, damn, why do I always forget whiskers?
And Vishapi , I hate you for getting me to play WoW. That game is so addicting and I wasted precious hours on it instead of drawing this...

Hi! I'm here fromΒ Β to tag you with a comment~ :3 My keyword is "contrast"!
This piece really stuck out to me in your gallery, it's def one of my top faves! And the contrast is really lovely. The saturated orange and brown and black of the fur against the soft pink in the background, and also just the shadows in the fur is sooo well done! Also, the blur of the background and the comparative sharpness of the panda is really nice to look at, and also the various textures! I kept on pausing on it as I scrolled by!
(Some of your pieces don't have a whole lot of contrast going on, but some of them really do have an awesome balance and it's so cool to look at! When you're on you're really on!
I really like the short spiky fur and the glassiness of the eyes!Wow, I can really tell you spent a long time on it... Really gorgeous work! Β
The only things I have to say in terms of criticism are,
(1) the panda is sitting on some sort of metal contraption, right??? It reminds me of like, playground equipment... But anyway, the line of metal should be muuuuch sharper, I feel like. Even if it's grainy or uneven paint, the edge should at least be totally straight!
(2) the perfect circles in the background on top of the flowers don't work as well, in my opinion (I sometimes do the same thing, with making perfect circles as "nature-y backgrounds" I guess we both have to remember that usually you can't see a sharp round edge in a flower bush or a tree... haha!) If it was just the style I think it would fit, but since the other circles are kind of blurry, and these darker ones are supposed to be the closest, I think they'd work better if they were more recognizable flower shapes or at least little clusters of circles instead of dots.
(3) Your mileage may vary (I kind of like it how it is) but I think some people might be sticklers about the flatter, blocky patches of shadow in the fur (for example, in the tail). Personally the way you've done it probably took FOREVER so it might take a ridiculous amount of time to go more realistic than that?! XD But I feel like technically there might be more colors visible in each block of shadow, in the strands of fur.Β
Overall this is so lovely! I love the expression on the pandas face, haha!
Nice work!
So you getΒ dviouslecunning Β and your keyword shall be... "unexpected" Β

Thanks for the feedback!
Lol, I feel all of these are stuff that I might've done better if I'd had more time/wasn't so fed up with the drawing.
1) It's a.... Branch. (images7.alphacoders.com/353/35β¦ ) Looks more like metal really. But since this one of the first realistic animal drawings I've done digitally (well, I did like one before this and this was the last one), I really don't have experience on fur painting techniques. Which meant it took hours upon hours to get just the fur done. And usually if one thing takes ages to do, I'm too lazy in the end to do anything else properly. So yeah. It's just a crappy tree.
2) Same as the last one. I'm plain lazy. I just did a background similar to the one in the pic. Could've do e a better job there too, if I'd used more time. Maybe next time I'll do actual blossoms.
3) My hand was actually hurting from all the fur. Well I did this over the course of God knows how many days, but still. I'll figure out a more effective way to do this (or just never ever attempt to draw an animal digitally, lol), perhaps see if it's possible to make custom brushes for ArtRage.
So yeah. All is because I'm lazy as hell. And am a beginner in digital art. Traditional is so much easier.
But thanks for the advice!
Hehe, sorry for the long reply, I just have a compulsive need to explain myself.

ooooh! I thought it was metal because of the grey color (I clicked on the ref image in the description but it wasn't the same one as this one you just sent, so I didn't see!) ^^ I think if you had used some more browns in the shading it would have been more obviously a branch! but I can DEFinitely understand getting too lazy at the end after spending a lot of time on something else xDΒ
this is really really really good if you're a beginner in digital art!! I could never, with that fur! XD well done! Β

Thank you! Well I did this like a bit over half a year after getting my proper tablet? I'm certainly not experienced, lol.

haha, I know what you mean! I've had my tablet for about 11 months, and I still feel like a beginner. XD Luckily after like 9 months I could finally draw a natural-looking sweepy line...Β

Hahaha. Yes, you know when something is hard if drawing one good line is like "YES I AM THE ULTIMATE MASTER WORSHIP ME". I mostly resort to scanning stuff and then sort of inking them on my computer, but that's good practice for drawing lines, too.

It looks very well done. Ya fur is kind of a hard to get thru. Wut is the program that u r using? I use a Photoshop and I was able to download some Fur Brush packs. And I alter the settings a lil. Or I try using a Triple Dot brush to help me get some fur/ hair strand details.Β
I haven't done fur much but I do paint hair and it takes me about 2hrs to paint hair. Brush packs may help for fur tho. Just a small suggestion to help paint it faster. Β
But this is very very wonderful work. Very detailed. Love this pic

Thank you! That's the part that was the slowest to draw... So that's why it took so long. I'll have to think of a better way to draw fur, or at least a faster one.

Oh, but that's one of the things that make it so good - you put a lot of effort in it so the result is amazing!

But it took so long... D: And my hand died multiple times. If I'm going to start drawing more drawings like this, I'm going to have to think of a faster way of drawing fur.

Sorry... I am ashamed to recommend it to you, but you'll be fine, there is a timer on the clock, so you can plan how long you are playing!

What we enjoy in life is either unhealthy or immoral. To paraphrase Churchill. I prefer it to be unhealthy.

Yes, definitely, but for now I'll stick to chibis and traditional art... This took so much time I'm just going to take a small break.
